Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Operations and Maintenance team, supporting transmission and distribution connected power generation assets. The role is primarily office\-based, with some visits to sites across the UK. You will support Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), gas peaking plants and associated HV and LV electrical distribution systems, transformers and grid connection equipment at 132, 275 and 400 kV.

This role focuses on strategic management, support, modification and fault investigation of electrical apparatus. You will work with equipment from LV control panels through to 400 kV grid connection apparatus, to ensure our critical assets remain safe and compliant, with a high availability factor.

You will be working for Statera Energy Operations (SEO), who operate the UKs largest portfolio of BESS and gas peaking plant sites. This portfolio will grow hugely over the next 1\-4 years with over 8 GW of transmission connected sites due to come online.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and strategic ownership of electrical systems.

  • Attend site for fault investigation, commissioning support, specialist testing or project work when required, sometimes at short notice.

  • Diagnose and resolve faults across LV and HV systems up to 400 kV, including electrical protection systems, transformers, switchgear and generators.

  • Act as subject matter expert for allocated equipment and apparatus.

  • Scope and (where appropriate) manage work during minor and major plant outages.

  • Lead engineering projects from concept through to delivery \- on schedule, on budget and safely. All while ensuring compliance with Standards and regulations.

  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Review maintenance reports, extracting defects to identify trends and areas for improvement, ensuring alignment with quality and safety standards.

  • Source and manage specialist contractors and consultants.

  • Review and approve engineering specifications and design documents, ensuring compliance with management of change processes.

  • Provide lifecycle management of allocated equipment. Identify alternatives to obsolescent parts, engaging with procurement teams to develop replacement strategies for critical components.

  • Prepare and present high quality engineering reports and project updates to stakeholders, including management and clients.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior Engineers and degree apprentices.

  • Stay current with industry trends, new technologies and best practices to enhance asset performance and safety.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • A Degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • 5\+ years’ experience within the field of industrial electrical engineering.

  • High level of theoretical understanding of electrical systems, including relevant Standards.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical systems.

  • Ability to read electrical SLDs, schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work within a small, dynamic team, in a fast paced environment.

  • High level of computer literacy.

  • Able to produce high quality, professional technical documents, with a high standard of written work.

  • Contract management experience.

  • Full UK driving license.
Desirable
  • Experience within the power generation industry.

  • Experience of BESS and gas fired generation plant.

  • Familiarity with plant control systems, PLC, SCADA, HMI and networking equipment.
