Role Purpose

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of ICP and private network projects across the UK.

The role will focus primarily on 11kV and 33kV distribution networks, including substations, underground cable systems and associated infrastructure, from initial design through DNO/IDNO approval, construction and as\-built documentation.

Working alongside the Senior Design Engineer and wider delivery team, you will take ownership of assigned design activities, producing safe, practical and compliant engineering solutions, with opportunities to develop your capability towards EHV projects up to 132kV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce safe and compliant designs for 11kV and 33kV contestable and private distribution networks

  • Develop SLDs, substation General Arrangements, equipment layouts, cable routes and associated electrical drawings

  • Carry out HV/LV cable sizing and produce cable and multicore schedules

  • Define technical requirements and prepare specifications for transformers, HV switchgear, cables and associated equipment

  • Work with manufacturers, suppliers and DNOs/IDNOs to review equipment technical submissions

  • Define required protection functions and interfaces in accordance with DNO/IDNO requirements

  • Review grid offers and technical requirements and translate them into practical design solutions

  • Ensure compliance with DNO/IDNO standards, NERS requirements, ESQCR, relevant legislation and industry standards

  • Apply Safety by Design principles, eliminating or reducing foreseeable risks and contributing to design risk assessments in accordance with CDM requirements

  • Prepare and progress technical submissions through DNO/IDNO approval

  • Coordinate interfaces with civil, protection, earthing and power\-system study disciplines

  • Provide technical support through site surveys, procurement, construction, commissioning and as\-built documentation
Experience \& Skills
  • Minimum 3 years' proven relevant electrical design experience

  • Proven practical 11kV distribution design experience

  • Proven experience with HV substations and underground cable systems, including SLDs, layouts and cable sizing

  • Good working knowledge of transformers, HV switchgear, cables and associated distribution equipment

  • Proven experience interpreting and applying DNO/IDNO standards and requirements

  • Experience preparing technical specifications and working with manufacturers and suppliers

  • Experience preparing or contributing to DNO/IDNO design submissions and approvals

  • Good understanding of electrical design safety, statutory requirements and engineering standards

  • Competent professional user of AutoCAD

  • Ability to interpret grid offers, engineering drawings, specifications and technical standards

  • Ability to manage assigned design activities, identify missing information and raise technical issues appropriately

  • Practical, methodical approach with strong attention to detail and good communication skills
Pay: £30,000\.00\-£52,000\.00 per year
