Hetherington Newman designs and manufactures high\-quality bespoke furniture and architectural joinery for private homes and high\-end residential projects throughout the UK.
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking full\-time Driver/Workshop Labourer to join our team at our workshop in Glossop.
The role will involve delivering furniture and architectural joinery to properties and construction sites across the country, although most deliveries are within Cheshire and the surrounding areas. When not making deliveries, you will undertake general labouring, housekeeping and material\-handling duties within the workshop.
This is a varied and physically active role that requires flexibility, careful handling of valuable furniture and a willingness to help wherever needed.
Main responsibilities
- Driving company vans of up to 3\.5 tonnes to residential properties and construction sites
- Delivering furniture and architectural joinery throughout the UK
- Loading and unloading furniture, materials and equipment at the factory and on site
- Checking loads and securing items safely before each journey
- Handling finished furniture carefully to prevent damage
- Assisting fitting teams with deliveries and moving items safely into position
- Carrying out general labouring duties within the workshop
- Keeping the workshop, loading areas, storage areas and company vehicles clean and tidy
- Receiving, moving and organising deliveries, materials and stock
- Assisting different workshop departments when required
- Operating a forklift where appropriately trained and authorised
- Carrying out basic daily vehicle checks
- Reporting vehicle defects, damage or maintenance requirements
- Completing any required delivery paperwork
- Representing the company professionally when visiting clients’ homes and project sites
- Working early starts and occasional longer days when delivery schedules require them
- Reliable, punctual and responsible
- Physically fit and comfortable with regular lifting and carrying
- Confident driving large vans over both short and long distances
- Careful when handling high\-value bespoke furniture
- Polite, presentable and respectful when working in clients’ homes
- Flexible around early starts and changing delivery schedules
- Safety\-conscious and able to judge when an item requires additional help or lifting equipment
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Organised and able to manage delivery paperwork accurately
- Willing to undertake cleaning, labouring and general workshop duties when not driving
- Comfortable working in a busy manufacturing environment
- Full, clean UK manual driving licence
- Previous professional van\-driving experience
- Experience driving vans up to 3\.5 tonnes
- Able to commute reliably to our Glossop workshop, including for early starts
- Physically capable of regularly moving large, heavy and awkward items
- Willing and able to travel throughout the UK
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Current forklift licence
- Previous experience in furniture, joinery, removals, logistics, deliveries or construction
- Experience delivering to private homes or high\-end residential sites
- Knowledge of safe manual\-handling and load\-securing procedures
- Previous workshop, warehouse or factory experience
- Permanent, full\-time position
- Monday\-to\-Friday working
- Early starts and occasional longer days will be required
