NEBOSH is looking for an inspirational and strategically minded Director of Social Purpose to lead the next stage of our charitable impact programme.
Reporting into the Chief Strategy and Governance Officer, this is a key leadership position with the opportunity to shape and deliver an ambitious Social Purpose Strategy, extend our reach beyond qualifications and ensure that our resources, partnerships and influence create lasting, measurable benefits for people and communities around the world.
As Director of Social Purpose, you will lead NEBOSH’s social purpose, charitable investment, partner engagement and impact agenda. You will help turn our charitable ambitions into meaningful action, strengthening our contribution to occupational safety, health, wellbeing and sustainability globally.
About our Social Purpose Programme
NEBOSH’s Social Purpose Programme is central to how we deliver our charitable mission.
The programme uses our global reach, expertise and resources to help change lives by keeping people safe and healthy at work. Its priorities include reducing workplace accidents among disadvantaged groups and in industries where occupational safety and health support is limited, addressing barriers to accessing OSH education and increasing diversity and inclusion within the profession.
Looking ahead, we want to deepen and broaden this work by investing in high\-impact initiatives, responding to unmet needs, developing influential partnerships and demonstrating clearly the difference our work makes. Our future strategy places social purpose at the heart of NEBOSH’s ambition to extend its reach and deliver greater charitable impact.
The opportunity
You will provide visible and credible leadership for NEBOSH’s Social Purpose Programme, working across the organisation and with external partners to:
- Develop and deliver NEBOSH’s Social Purpose Strategy, aligned with our organisational strategy, charitable objectives and impact ambitions.
- Identify emerging needs, opportunities and gaps where NEBOSH can make a meaningful and sustainable difference.
- Lead a portfolio of social purpose initiatives, ensuring investment decisions are evidence\-based and focused on measurable outcomes.
- Strengthen the governance, monitoring and evaluation of the programme, including the development of impact dashboards and annual reporting.
- Build strategic partnerships with charities, governments, employers, industry bodies, professional associations and academic institutions in the UK and internationally.
We are looking for an accomplished senior leader who combines strategic thinking with the energy and credibility to turn ambition into measurable impact.
You will bring:
- Significant senior leadership experience within a charity, social impact, ESG, public benefit, international development or a related environment.
- A strong track record of developing and delivering strategies that achieve demonstrable social impact.
- Experience of managing complex stakeholder relationships across different sectors and geographies.
- The ability to establish strategic partnerships and collaborative delivery models.
- A sound understanding of impact measurement, performance reporting and benefits realisation.
- Experience of leading teams and supporting organisational change.

What we offer
Working week:
35 hours Monday – Friday
Work base:
Although NEBOSH offices in Leicestershire (close to Fosse Park and M1\) are considered as your work base, we have adopted hybrid working practices (however, attendance will be required at the office on a regular basis).
Salary:
£75,000 per annum
