DevOps Engineer (f/m/x)

As we expand our Health Evidence solutions and researcher-focused developer tooling—we seek a DevOps Engineer with strong Infrastructure as Code development skills and cloud infrastructure experience.You will work closely with engineering, researcher, project, and product teams to build, integrate, and evolve our Kubernetes-based Application Tier that enables advancing medical and public-health research and translation applications.We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Research Enablement team. This is a full time position located in Berlin/Potsdam, with a possibility for hybrid work.
Your future role
- Work in a collaborative and supportive manner with engineers and researchers to enable smooth deployments, handovers, and operational reliability.
- Take ownership of our Kubernetes-based Application Tier and drive its evolution across Azure and hybrid environments.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud-native infrastructure using Terraform, Helm, and GitHub Actions.
- Improve and automate platform workflows, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and secrets management to empower internal and external developers.
- Help shape the long-term cloud architecture for research workloads, including scale-out strategies, secure data paths, and HPC integrations.
- Proactively explore and evaluate new technologies that support research computing, high-performance, and reproducible system design.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, documentation, and cross-team decision making around networking, IAM, security boundaries, and service architecture.
- You have experience developing and operating Kubernetes-based systems - ideally in managed environments like AKS, EKS, or GKE.
- You have experience with at least one modern programming language - with a willingness to learn Go, and shell scripting for Linux systems.
- You have hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform, plus familiarity with Helm, GitHub Actions, and GitHub runners.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking (VNet/VPC design, private endpoints, DNS, ingress controllers, TLS, routing).
- You are familiar with Docker, containerized workloads, PostgreSQL, object storage, and monitoring/observability stacks (Prometheus/Grafana or ELK).
- You are a team player and motivated to explore and evaluate new technologies.
- Strong communication skills in English (at least C1).
- You are comfortable working in research-driven and experimental environments.
