Design \& Production Assistant

Application process: If you are interested to apply for this role, please do so via the online form here. Please note that we will only be considering applications made through this form....

Location \& Hours:
  • Based at our workshop and studio in the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool

  • Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:30 (37\.5 hours per week)

  • Full Time; £13\.50/hr (£26,500 p/a)
Introduction to our workshop:

You’ll be at the heart of a well\-known design\-led joinery workshop where every team member plays a valuable and equal part in executing our signature designs for our design\-loving clients.

Who we’re looking for:

Are you the sort of person who gets a genuine kick out of seeing something you’ve helped to design come together in the workshop and get installed in a client’s home? We love this process and we’re looking for someone who can match our passion for the work.

You may have a background in Product Design, Architecture, Furniture Design, Architectural Woodworking, or a related discipline. You’ll have a love of lifelong learning and have a willingness to get to know our specific tools, and ways of working.

You’re probably someone who thrives on structure, processes and precision. That’s great, we do too. Most of all you’ll be collaborative, a creative thinker and understand that every single team member contributes to making H. Miller Bros a great place to be.

The Role has three core areas of activity:

1\. Design \& technical modelling (your main focus – approx. 3 days a week)

  • Build accurate 3D cabinet models using Cabinet Vision software from client briefs

  • Produce technical drawings and 3D visualisations for clients and the workshop team

  • Generate CNC batch files and manage production outputs

  • Track defects and coordinate re\-cuts with the workshop
*This is where you’ll spend the majority of your time. You’ll be the link between the design brief and the workshop floor \- building the models that the team builds from. You’ll quickly learn that precision here matters: what you draw, they cut.*

2\. Sales and marketing support (approx. 1 day a week)

  • Research appliances, calculate material quantities and compile client quotations in InDesign
*Our work looks great, and we want the world to see it. You’ll play a hands\-on role in showing it off. You’ll learn how a project is won, from briefing to quoting, and understand the commercial reality that underpins every design.*

3\. Workshop support (approx. 1 day a week)

  • Helping to support the day to day running of the workshop
*We believe designers can contribute massively to production flow. You’ll learn first\-hand how material choices affect waste, how tolerances matter, and how continuous improvement shapes the way we work. Things like purchasing, waste management and timesheets might not sound glamorous \- but knowing how small decisions can contribute to our ever\-improving processes is something most designers never get to see or understand.*

Training \& Development:

We’ll train you in everything: Cabinet Vision, InDesign, QuickBooks, Monday.com, and our continuous improvement principles. We prioritise attitude and aptitude over experience. If you’re sharp, curious, and want to grow into a rounded design\-and\-production professional, we’ll give you the environment to succeed.

What you’ll have:

  • Degree or equivalent in product design, architecture, furniture design, wood technology, or related field

  • Strong 3D modelling and computer skills

  • Organised, accurate, and able to manage your time across multiple tasks

  • A practical mindset: you think about how things get made, not just how they look

  • Positive, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a small, hands\-on team where everyone contributes across the business.

  • Any knowledge of Cabinet Vision is a bonus, but not required
What's in it for you
  • £13\.50/hr, with quarterly performance reviews and annual pay reviews linked to both your performance and market rates

  • A performance\-linked bonus scheme shared across the workshop team

  • Overtime paid at 1\.5x your standard rate

  • Trade prices on materials and appliances passed on for personal use

  • Parking permit for the Baltic Triangle, valid seven days a week

  • Uniform and PPE provided, plus £50/year towards safety footwear

  • 28 days annual leave including bank holidays

  • Workplace pension with 3% employer contribution

  • A working environment that actively develops broad skills — we don't pigeonhole people into narrow roles, and there's always something new to learn here

  • A focused, professional workshop — clean, well\-organised, and worth seeing for yourself
