About the role
At Balfour Beatty we deliver some of the UK’s most complex, critical and nationally significant infrastructure and construction projects. We are currently seeking an experienced and driven Design Manager to join our team in Derby, supporting the successful delivery of a major project for Rolls\-Royce Project.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a highly collaborative project environment where innovation, technical excellence and quality are at the forefront. Working on a prestigious and technically demanding programme, you will play a key role in leading the design process, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the successful integration of design solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
The role will suit someone who thrives in a fast\-paced environment, enjoys solving complex engineering and construction challenges, and is passionate about delivering high\-quality outcomes for a globally recognised client. As Design Manager, you will work closely with internal delivery teams, consultants, supply chain partners and the client to drive design performance, manage risk, and support the successful delivery of this flagship project.
What you'll be doing
As a Design Manager you will:
- Managing the design process from pre\-construction through to project delivery
- Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and specialist consultants
- Ensuring designs are compliant, buildable, cost\-effective, and delivered on programme
- Driving design risk management and technical assurance processes
- Working closely with operational, commercial, and client teams to achieve successful project outcomes
- Leading design reviews, workshops, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Proven experience as a Design Manager within construction or major infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of design coordination and project delivery processes
- Experience working within highly regulated or technically complex environments is advantageous
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead collaborative teams effectively.
