Design Engineer

Role Summary:

Leafield Marine Limited (‘LML’) are World Leaders in the design, development and manufacture of valves and inflation systems for a wide range of inflatable structures including Liferafts and MES (marine evacuation systems). Product Design Engineer is a key role within the small LML Engineering team responsible for new product design, R\&D of concepts and processes and providing key technical support for existing products. The role requires the engineer to be able to use a wide range of engineering theories and principles within this highly regulated demanding safety critical industry. Individual will need to have active project management skills, be able to use CAD, prototyping and testing experience with the application of engineering analytical problem\-solving tools to create and introduce new products customers and solutions for manufacturing. National and/or international travel will occasionally be necessary for this role.

Reporting to the Engineering Leader Break Down of Role:

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

Design Brief. Develop design requirements / design brief with Sales and Marketing and/or Customer Design Concept Development based around the requirements / brief

Feasibility Study. Conducting feasibility studies for proof of concept

Product Design Development. Designs using CAD from initial concept modelling through to final detailed designs for both individual components and assemblies, defining critical features, performance test requirements and definition of production method.

Perform tolerance analyses and other design techniques to ensure the form, fit and function of mating parts and complete assemblies including checking of work for others

Undertake FMEA, DFM, reliability studies and tolerance analyses and other design techniques to ensure the form, fit, and function of mating parts and complete assemblies where relevant in the product development process.

Maintain excellent understanding of these tools and techniques.

Product Approval. Ensure design product conformance to regulatory bodies certification requirements (UKCA, CE, PED, Type Approval etc.). through planning and delivering product development and/or certification/approval testing.

Engineering Team. Participate in design reviews and project progress meetings.

Documentation. Maintain procedures, design records, test reports and work instructions as required.

Project Management: Responsible for controlling and planning allocated projects:

Production Readiness: Responsible for transferring designs through to production.

Ability to devise new approaches to solve design issues to optimise solutions

Confident with a positive drive coupled with a “can do, will do” attitude

Adaptable and flexible in their approach to working Work well within a team setting but also be able to work independently by planning, prioritising and organising their day\-to\-day activities with minimal supervision from initial task assignments / objectives to completion of the project.

Excellent communicator at all levels and capable of building strong cooperative and collaborative working relationships across the business and with external parties (customers/suppliers).

Qualification / Experience:

Essential

Engineering / Design Discipline Degree or “Time\-Served” equivalent.

Competent in the use of Solid Edge or equivalent 3D CAD.

Practical understanding and application of engineering disciplines and principles. Experience of hands\-on product testing.

Desirable

Experience in MRP ERP Systems particularly Winman for BOM creation.

Competent in the use of the Microsoft office suite of software

Pay: £35,000\.00\-£45,000\.00 per year
