Deputy Head of Warehousing & Logistics
Core Purpose
We operate a veterinary pharmaceutical warehouse in Nantwich and are looking for a hands\-on Deputy Head of Warehouse \& Logistics to join our team.
This is a key role within the national business. You will take full responsibility for the Service Office while working alongside the Warehouse Team Leader to keep the warehouse running properly. You will also deputise for the Head of W\&L, stepping in to manage the operation when needed and providing succession resilience. You will be an ambassador for the service to all stakeholders within the community.

Location
The warehouse in Nantwich is a key part of the national business and you will be based there full time. This is not a role that can easily include hybrid or remote working. You would be expected to build relationships across the community. Some business travel will be required for member meetings and events across the UK; it is expected that on average this won’t exceed two days per month.
Reporting
This role will be working as a member of the XLVet UK Ltd operations team reporting to the Head of Warehousing \& Logistics.

Key responsibilities of the role
· Act as deputy to the Head of Warehouse \& Logistics
· Support planning, forecasting and improvements
Service office
· Manage customer orders, queries and day\-to\-day communication
· Maintain customer and product data within SAP
· Provide clear updates on stock availability, issues and order progress
· Manage, organise and develop the existing sales order processing role, ensuring work is structured and flowing properly
Stock control \& suppliers
· Monitor stock levels and place orders to maintain availability
· Manage supplier relationships, including delays, shortages and backorders
· Work with procurement to resolve supply issues and maintain continuity
Warehouse operations
· Support daily warehouse activity (Goods In, picking, packing and dispatch)
· Support workflow, stock movement and replenishment
· Assist with task allocation and operational priorities
· Uphold strong Health \& Safety standards
Team leadership
· Lead the Service Office and support the Warehouse Team Leader
· Provide clear direction, structure and priorities
· Support training and development of team members
· Deal with day\-to\-day issues, escalations and workload pressures
Compliance \& standards
· Follow and uphold Health \& Safety, GDP and VMD requirements
· Support audits, inspections and ongoing compliance
· Maintain SOPs, records and documentation
· Help ensure the operation remains audit\-ready at all times
· Work towards becoming a WQP
Additional Responsibilities of the Role
This is a hands\-on job in a busy warehouse operation handling high volumes of daily orders. You’ll be dealing with Customers, Orders, Stock, Suppliers and Warehouse operations, often all at the same time.
We are looking for someone who can keep things organised, make decisions, and get on with it. And most importantly, someone who can fit in with our easy going, friendly team.
The role will evolve. You will increasingly contribute to the national business as an ambassador for the service, working closely with stakeholders across the community.
Key qualifications and experience
· An interest in, and respect for, the veterinary profession and the role XLVets plays within it.
· Experience in warehouse, logistics or service operations
· Comfortable managing orders, customers and stock together
· Able to organise work and people without overcomplicating things
· Confident communicator with a practical approach
· Good attention to detail and accuracy
· Tech savvy and curious (SAP experience helpful, not essential)
· Reliable, organised and willing to get stuck in
· Desirable: Experience in regulated environments (e.g. pharmaceutical / veterinary)
