Debt Recovery Paralegal
A Debt Recovery Paralegal is required for this full service legal 200 law firm based in central Birmingham. Hybrid work is available after the probation period.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a focus on providing outstanding service to their clients, will be confident with IT, and will be capable of working under their own initiative (albeit, naturally, with appropriate supervision).
Responsibilities for the Debt Recovery Paralegal role:
- Manage a portfolio of defended and disputed accounts from initial query through to resolution.
- Review evidence, draft legal documentation, and assess case prospects.
- Prepare court documents including defences, witness statements, applications, consent orders, and pre-action correspondence.
- Liaise directly with clients to provide advice on case strategy, settlement negotiations, and evidential requirements.
- Prepare cases for hearings, mediation, and settlement conferences.
- Handle individual and corporate insolvency processes including: Bankruptcy petitions, Winding-up petitions, Statutory demands and engagement with IVA/CVA proposals
- Liaise with insolvency practitioners, official receivers, courts, and clients.
- Track statutory deadlines and ensure compliance with relevant Insolvency Rules.
- Advise clients on how insolvency affects enforcement and recovery prospects.
- Advise clients on the most appropriate enforcement options following judgment, considering proportionality, debtor circumstances, and cost effectiveness.
- Prepare and issue applications for warrants/Writs of Control (County Court & High Court)/Attachment of Earnings Orders/Charging Orders (interim and final)/Third Party Debt Orders/Orders to Attend Court for questioning
- Liaise with High Court Enforcement Officers, County Court bailiffs, and third-party agencies.
- Investigate assets, employment status, and financial standing to inform enforcement strategy.
- The Paralegal will support the team’s business development activity by attending industry events, client meetings and networking sessions as required.
