Onsite Hardware & Datacentre Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Hardware & Datacentre Engineer to provide hands-on infrastructure support within a secure customer environment.

You will install, maintain, troubleshoot and replace enterprise hardware, while supporting the day-to-day operation of the datacentre. This is a customer-facing position requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities • Install, configure and maintain server, storage and networking hardware.

  • Diagnose hardware faults and complete break-fix activities within agreed SLAs.

  • Rack, stack, cable and decommission infrastructure equipment.

  • Install and manage copper and fibre cabling.

  • Complete component replacements, firmware upgrades and hardware refreshes.

  • Monitor equipment, power connections and the physical condition of the datacentre.

  • Maintain accurate asset records, rack layouts, cable schedules and maintenance logs.

  • Coordinate warranty and support activities with third-party vendors.

  • Respond to incidents, service requests and approved infrastructure changes.

  • Support migrations, deployments, datacentre relocations and disaster-recovery testing.

  • Provide clear updates through ITSM and customer reporting systems.

  • Follow all security, access, compliance and Health & Safety procedures.

Skills and Experience • At least three years’ experience in a hardware engineering or datacentre position.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise server hardware such as Dell, HPE, Lenovo or Cisco UCS.

  • Experience supporting storage and networking equipment.

  • Strong knowledge of hardware diagnostics, firmware upgrades and component replacement.

  • Experience with structured copper and fibre cabling.

  • Understanding of datacentre power, cooling and infrastructure fundamentals.

  • Experience using ServiceNow, Remedy, Jira or another ITSM platform.

  • Understanding of incident, problem and change management processes.

  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation and customer communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently within a secure, SLA-driven environment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain customer security clearance where required.

Desirable Qualifications • ITIL Foundation.
  • CompTIA Server+.

  • Dell, HPE, Lenovo or Cisco certification.

  • Datacentre operations or facilities certification.

  • Health & Safety training.
