Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Data Platform Engineer to join our Group IT team at our global headquarters in Prescot, Merseyside.

Data sits right at the heart of our strategy, and this role plays a pivotal part in delivering reliable data pipelines, optimising our data lakehouse/warehousing solutions, and enabling modern analytics capabilities across the worldwide AHK Group.
Reporting directly to the Data Engineering Lead, you will design, build, and support our modern data platform solutions while taking hands\-on responsibility for SQL Server environments, semantic models, and ETL/ELT pipelines. DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Database \& T\-SQL Development: Strong experience in T\-SQL development within Microsoft SQL Server, including query optimisation, performance tuning, and routine maintenance.
- Data Integration \& Pipelines: Hands\-on experience designing, building, and maintaining robust ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or equivalent tooling.
- Data Warehousing \& Modelling: Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, relational database schema design, and dimensional modelling (e.g., star schemas).
- Data Quality \& Production Support: Practical experience supporting production data environments, conducting root\-cause issue resolution, and enforcing data validation and integrity controls.
- Collaborative \& Solution\-Focused: Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions and communicate effectively across technical and non\-technical stakeholders.
- Exposure to modern cloud data architectures, such as Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Data Factory, Warehousing) or Azure Data Factory. Understanding of medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold layers) and modern data platform patterns.
- Experience developing or working with semantic models (e.g., Power BI / Microsoft Fabric) and Power BI reporting.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices, version control (Git), and Agile delivery methodologies.
- Understanding of data governance, security, and access control practices.
- Formal education to degree level in IT, Computer Science, Science, or Mathematics (or equivalent industry experience).
