In this role, you will:

Embed Secure by Design principles across projects and operational services

Identify, assess and communicate cyber risks in a clear and practical way

Provide expert, proportionate security advice across technical and strategic initiatives

Lead security assessments of systems, applications, and suppliers

Support change management by ensuring risks are identified and mitigated

Deliver engaging cyber security training and awareness initiatives

Work collaboratively with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen resilience

You will:

Have proven cyber security expertise with experience evaluating technical designs and applying security principles aligned to recognised standards

Be able to assess risks in real\-world context , understanding both technical and organisational impacts

Communicate complex security concepts in clear, non\-technical language

Build strong relationships and confidently influence stakeholders at all levels

Be curious, proactive, and driven to continuously improve and stay ahead of emerging threats

Offer practical, balanced solutions that support both security and business outcome

This role requires flexibility and the ability to travel regularly across our sites in:

Hertfordshire, West Essex, Cambridgeshire, Luton \& Bedfordshire, and Somerset

We’re looking for candidates who are fully mobile and comfortable potentially working across multiple locations as part of a collaborative approach.

The Cyber Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring the protection of HUC computer systems, network, and data from security threats such as cyberattacks, unauthorized access, and data breaches. This role involves monitoring security systems, analysing vulnerabilities, responding to incidents, and implementing security measures that ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets

Main responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Monitor networks and systems for security breaches, unusual activity, and potential threats.

Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to identify security weaknesses.

Implement, manage, and maintain security tools, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), SIEM tools, antivirus software, and encryption solutions.

Investigate and respond to security incidents, including forensic analysis and incident reporting.

Develop, update, and enforce cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures.

Collaborate with IT and ServiceDesk teams to strengthen security posture across infrastructure, software, and cloud environments.

Perform risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.

Provide security training and awareness programs for employees.

Stay current with emerging cyber threats, technologies, and best practices.
