The Cover Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a productive learning environment rather than carrying out full teacher-level planning and assessment.
Responsibilities of a Cover Supervisor
The Cover Supervisor will:
- Supervise KS3 and KS4 classes.
- Introduce the work that teaching staff have already set.
- Make sure pupils understand instructions.
- Keep pupils focused and on task.
- Maintain classroom routines.
- Apply the school's behaviour policy consistently.
- Manage transitions between activities.
- Work across different secondary subjects.
- Follow safeguarding procedures.
- Report relevant information to teaching staff.
Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor is welcome but is not always essential.
A strong Cover Supervisor will be confident communicating with teenagers, able to establish boundaries and comfortable managing a classroom without having to teach new subject content from scratch.
