Corporate Tax Senior Manager

Location: Kent, with office options in Canterbury or Chatham

Working pattern: Hybrid, 3 days in the office / 2 days from home

Employment type: Permanent, full time

This is the role you move for when compliance is no longer enough.

You’ve done the compliance-heavy Senior Manager role. You can review complex corporation tax work, manage deadlines, support junior staff and keep clients happy.

But if you’re honest, the work that probably interests you most now is the advisory side.

Restructures. M&A tax support. Share schemes. International tax. The technical questions that need judgement. The client conversations where you’re not just reporting numbers, but shaping decisions.

That is where this role is pitched.

This is a Corporate Tax Senior Manager role with a clear advisory focus, based one of two offices in Kent. You’ll be joining a long-established accountancy and advisory firm with a strong presence across Kent, Sussex and London, and a Corporate Tax team of 25 people sitting within a wider tax service line of nearly 100.

The local team already has good strength in compliance and R&D. What they need now is someone who can help push the advisory offering forward.

Someone who can lead high-quality advisory projects, convert opportunities into revenue, support colleagues on complex technical issues and give Partners more capacity by taking proper ownership of delivery.

It’s a chance to become a visible senior figure in the growth of the corporate tax advisory service across Kent.

Why this is a good move

Because the gap is obvious, and that gives you room to make an impact.

The team has the clients. It has the compliance platform. It has the wider tax service line around it. It has Partners who need someone credible enough to take more advisory delivery off their desk.

That creates a very real opportunity for the right Senior Manager.

You’ll work with entrepreneurial growth companies, larger corporates, multinational groups, FCA-regulated businesses and AIM-listed PLCs, across a broad range of sectors. The work will include advisory projects, technical compliance support, client development and internal upskilling.

The firm also has established offices across Kent and the wider South East, with its Canterbury office providing accounting, taxation and wealth advisory expertise across a broad sector base. The wider careers information also highlights agile working, wellbeing, flexible benefits and ongoing development support, which is useful if you want a senior role with room to breathe rather than just a heavier workload.

What you’ll actually be doing

You’ll lead and deliver corporate tax advisory projects with limited Partner input, producing advice that is technically strong, commercially useful and ready for the client.

The work could include restructures, tax support on M&A transactions, share schemes, international tax issues and broader ad hoc corporate tax advice.

You’ll also support complex compliance matters for OMBs and larger corporate groups, helping the team deal with technical issues properly and improving advisory confidence across the wider group.

There is a commercial element too. You’ll support business development, help convert opportunities into fee income and build stronger client relationships.

And because this role is about strengthening capability, not just delivering your own work, you’ll mentor and develop team members, help raise the internal profile of the corporate tax service and support cross-team engagement.

The kind of person this suits

This will suit someone who is CTA qualified, or qualified by experience, and already has strong Corporate Tax experience.

You’ll need to be technically confident, but this is not just about knowing the legislation. You need to be able to turn technical knowledge into practical advice clients understand and value.

You’ll also need to be comfortable commercially. That means building relationships, spotting opportunities, following them up and helping convert advisory demand into revenue.

The right person will be organised, credible and confident enough to take ownership without needing everything Partner-led. You’ll know when to ask for input, but you won’t be waiting for someone else to drive the work forward.

You’ll probably be a strong fit if you have:

  • CTA qualification, or equivalent experience

  • Strong Corporate Tax experience in practice

  • A clear interest in advisory-led work

  • Experience with restructures, M&A tax support, share schemes, international tax or ad hoc corporate tax advice

  • Confidence producing client-ready advice with limited Partner input

  • Ability to support complex corporate tax compliance issues

  • Experience working with OMBs, large corporate groups or multinational clients

  • Confidence developing client relationships and winning work

  • Strong organisation and deadline management skills

  • Experience mentoring or developing team members

  • Willingness to travel between offices and client premises when needed

What’s in it for you?

You’ll get a role with genuine advisory weight, not just the occasional project bolted onto a compliance workload.

You’ll have the chance to be known internally as someone who helps move the corporate tax advisory offering forward. You’ll work closely with Partners, but with enough space to own delivery, build relationships and make your own mark.

You’ll also have hybrid working, 27.5 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, holiday buying, contributory pension, life assurance, health cash plan, income protection, private medical insurance, critical illness insurance, an Employee Assistance Programme, counselling support, annual flu jab, discounts and rewards.

There are also family-friendly policies, monthly recognition awards, internal and external training, paid volunteering time, charitable giving options, cycle to work and interest-free travel or vehicle loan options where applicable.
