We are seeking an experienced and patient\-focused Ophthalmologist to join our growing clinical team in London.
Job Purpose
The Ophthalmologist will be responsible for delivering outstanding clinical care across ophthalmology and refractive services, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, surgical excellence, and patient experience.
The successful candidate will provide consultations, diagnostics, treatment planning, and surgical procedures while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary clinical and operational teams to support excellent patient outcomes and continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care \& Patient Management
- Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic consultations and assessments
- Diagnose and manage a wide range of ophthalmic conditions
- Develop personalised treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient needs
- Deliver high standards of patient\-centred care throughout the patient journey
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and patient records
- Ensure informed consent and clear patient communication at all stages of treatment
The Ophthalmologist will be expected to perform and support a range of ophthalmic and refractive procedures including:
- Cataract surgery, including premium and multifocal intraocular lens implantation
- Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
- Femto\-LASIK procedures
- ReLEx SMILE procedures
- PRK surface laser procedures
- Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) procedures
- YAG laser capsulotomy
- YAG peripheral iridotomy
- Pre\-operative assessment and surgical planning
- Post\-operative care and follow\-up management
- Management of refractive and cataract surgery complications
- Interpretation of ophthalmic diagnostics including OCT, corneal topography, and biometry
- Clinical decision\-making regarding treatment suitability and premium lens selection
- Adhere to CQC requirements, clinical governance standards, and company policies
- Participate in audits, clinical reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
- Support incident reporting, risk management, and patient safety processes
- Maintain up\-to\-date knowledge of ophthalmology advancements, guidelines, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with GMC standards and professional obligations
- Work collaboratively with Optometrists, Nurses, Surgeons, and operational teams
- Support a positive, professional, and patient\-focused culture
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and clinical discussions
- Provide guidance and support to junior clinical staff where appropriate
- Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives
Essential
- Medical degree with full GMC registration and licence to practise
- Completion of specialist training in Ophthalmology such as CertLRS
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology (or eligibility)
- Proven experience performing refractive and cataract surgical procedures
- Experience with high volume of lens\-based refractive procedures
- Excellent clinical, diagnostic, and surgical skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and safety
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Professional, empathetic, and patient\-focused approach
- Experience within private healthcare environments
- Interest in premium ophthalmology services and advanced technology
- Research, teaching, or publication experience
- Experience working with international or VIP patients
