The role
As a Construction Health and Safety Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a key role within our Naval Base Projects team, supporting a diverse portfolio of construction projects in a unique, high\-hazard environment. Acting as a subject matter expert in Construction Design and Management (CDM), you’ll ensure safety is embedded from the earliest design stages through to on\-site delivery.
Day\-to\-day, you’ll be required to:
- Collaborating with designers, project managers, and contractors to embed safe design principles from project inception
- Applying principles of prevention to eliminate or reduce risk during the pre\-construction phase
- Reviewing risk assessments, hazard logs, and construction documentation to ensure safe, compliant delivery
- Contributing to design reviews, workshops, and project meetings across multiple sites
- Providing practical, on\-site health and safety guidance that supports safe and effective project delivery
Essential experience of the Construction Health and Safety Specialist
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and construction health and safety legislation
- Experience understanding and managing design risk, not just site safety
- Background working in live construction environments in a hands\-on role
- Experience engaging directly with contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence, challenge, and drive safe outcomes
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate or equivalent
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5–6 in Occupational Health and Safety or working towards
- Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as IOSH, IIRSM, CIOB, RICS or ICE or working towards
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
