About us
------------
At UCL, we do things differently. As one of the world’s leading universities, we are driven by a commitment to academic excellence, innovation and positive impact. Based in the heart of London and at UCL East, we bring together world\-leading expertise across disciplines to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing society today.
The Office of the Vice\-President External Engagement (VPEE) leads UCL’s engagement with internal and external audiences, helping to strengthen our reputation, visibility and influence globally. Our teams work across communications, brand, media, public affairs, marketing and events to tell the stories that matter most to our staff, students, partners and wider communities.
About the role
------------------
With a specific focus on UCL East, the Communications Manager will play a key role in communicating the vision and impact of UCL’s presence in east London, supporting engagement with East Bank partners and amplifying our work building strong relationships across the four Olympic boroughs.
The role will contribute to place‑based storytelling that reflects UCL East’s multidisciplinary approach to addressing global challenges, working closely with academic colleagues, the Students Union, the public art, culture and community engagement team, the partnerships manager and local stakeholders. This includes developing and delivering communications that support collaboration with local schools and our Widening Participation pipeline, growing awareness of enterprise and innovation activity, and ensuring UCL East is positioned as an open, engaged and outward‑facing campus with deep civic roots.
You will be expected to plan and deliver integrated campaigns for UCL East audiences, running both internal and external communications activity across multiple channels. The role requires strong multimedia skills, including confidence working with the Adobe Creative Suite to produce engaging digital, visual and video content.
You will bring a strong sense of civic engagement and cultural awareness, and will be comfortable taking an active role in the life of the campus: attending events, supporting cultural activity and helping to shape the public narrative around UCL East as a collaborative, creative and inclusive part of the local community. The post\-holder will also be able to leverage internal stakeholder relations to help amplify UCL East content across the UCL community.
*Please note, this is an internal recruitment advert, available to eligible UCL workers only and is offered on a secondment/fixed\-term contract basis until April 2027\. The role is offered on a hybrid\-working basis with a minimum of 1\-2 days per week onsite (subject to change) at our Bidborough House office.*
