Summary of Position:
Work under the supervision of the Head of Commercial Law to progress commercial files relating to acquisitions of property and refinances of the same within the deadlines imposed by auctioneers and clients requirements.
To keep clients and all other parties updated at all times.
To complete the above while working well within the team of the department and with the other teams within the firm.
Primary Responsibilities
- Agree the strategy of cases with Supervising Solicitor taking Instructions and advising clients on aspects of their matter.
- Proactively work with your team to progress the matter.
- Communicate with clients to provide updates and obtain information to progress the matter.
- Liaising with Solicitors, Lenders and Agents.
- Obtain relevant documentation for the matter, including ordering searches, obtaining documents from the Land Registry and Companies House.
- Preparing documentation relevant to the matter, including completion statements, payment request forms, Stamp Duty forms, Land Registry Applications and documents for engrossment.
- Submitting documentation, including Stamp Duty forms and Land Registry Application.
- Carry out AML check, file reviews and risk assessments.
- Accurately maintain an up\-to\-date electronic record of the activity on the matter.
- Liaising with the commercial team and the people within other departments of the firm.
- Liaising with the compliance team and support staff and adhering to all policies and procedures as set out by the Company.
- A Law degree or equivalent work\-based experience.
- A minimum of 12 month experience working in Law Firm (essential).
- Previous experience in a fast\-paced office environment (desirable).
- Experience working within Commercial Property (desirable).
- Communication skills: You will be working with a wide range of people, from clients to other solicitors and other industry professionals, so the ability to communicate well and in a professional manner is essential.
- Written communication skills: spelling and grammar.
- Attention to detail: high level of accuracy and attention to detail when preparing legal documents or filling out forms and statements.
- Teamwork: able to work with clients, lawyers, and other legal secretaries.
- Strong sense of discretion.
- Courteous and professional demeanor.
- Demonstrate that you can cope well under pressure.
- IT skills: Most work is be carried out electronically.
- Understanding on how to use MS Office (essential).
- Legal terminology, although full training will be given (desirable).
- Ability to work with legal technology (Computer systems, transcription software, Dictaphone etc). (desirable)
