Commercial Catering Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced, dependable, and customer\-focused Commercial Catering Engineer to join our expanding team. In this field\-based role, you will install, service, maintain, and repair Rational commercial catering equipment across diverse customer sites throughout North West and West Midlands England
As a key member of our engineering team, you will diagnose and resolve technical faults, carry out preventative maintenance, and ensure equipment according operates safely and efficiently. You will work directly with customers, providing a professional service while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, compliance, and health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, service, and maintain Rational commercial catering equipment to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs, ensuring equipment is restored to full operational performance with minimal downtime.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to maximise equipment reliability, efficiency, and lifespan.
- Respond promptly and professionally to service and breakdown call\-outs, prioritising customer needs and operational requirements.
- Accurately complete service reports, job sheets and all associated documentation using company systems and procedures.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with current Health \& Safety legislation, company policies, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain and manage company vehicle, tools, test equipment, and spare parts inventory to support efficient field operations.
- Provide technical advice and support to customers, explaining faults, repairs, and maintenance recommendations in a clear and professional manner.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service, professionalism, and effective communication.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and recommend appropriate service, maintenance, or replacement solutions where required.
- Work independently to plan and manage daily workloads while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in manufacturer and company training programmes to maintain and develop technical knowledge and industry certifications.
- Proven experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing commercial catering equipment, with strong expertise in Rational appliances preferred.
- Excellent fault\-finding, diagnostic, and problem\-solving abilities across a range of commercial kitchen equipment.
- Relevant industry qualifications and certifications are desirable (e.g. COMCAT, electrical qualifications, or equivalent).
- Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Customer\-focused approach, committed to delivering a professional, reliable, and high\-quality service.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and manage time effectively in a field\-based environment.
- Well organised, self\-motivated, and capable of working under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- COMCAT 1, 3, and 5 certifications (or equivalent commercial catering gas qualifications).
- Gas Safe Registration
- Recognised electrical qualifications, such as CCEECC, or equivalent.
- Rational training and accreditation, with experience working on Rational cooking systems.
- Dependable, professional, and highly punctual, with a strong commitment to delivering excellent service.
- Proactive problem\-solver with the ability to diagnose issues quickly and implement effective solutions.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to changing priorities and customer requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring work is completed accurately, safely, and to a high standard.
- Able to remain calm and effective under pressure, particularly in fast\-paced commercial kitchen environments.
- Self\-motivated with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
- Committed to maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction at all times.
