Clinical Nurse Manager 2 \| Frailty \- Ambulatory Emergency Care

Specific Purpose Contract, Full Time \& Part Time Hours.

The post\-holder is professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing of Mercy University Hospital.

Clinically accountable to the supervising Consultant (Gerontology).

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support the ambulatory emergency care pathway for frail older people presenting to Emergency Department (ED).

  • Assist in timely comprehensive geriatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

  • Work closely with the MDT team members including ANPs, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Junior Doctors, and Consultants.

  • Use clinical judgement and critical thinking skills to review and manage plans for frail older adults attending the ED, with Consultant and MDT support.

  • Responsibile for the clinical environment and for ensuring the provision of quality patient care by acting as an integral member of the team.

  • Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership in all aspects of nursing care.

  • Act as positive and accountable role model in providing direct patient care.

  • Assess, evaluate and review the requirements of individual patient needs

  • Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards an evidence\-based care planning approach.

  • Identify objectives, evaluate and manage the implementation of best practice, policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with the Senior Nurse Managers, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing services.

  • Collaborate with the Bed Management unit to ensure timely and accurate transmission of information in relation to admission, transfer and discharge

  • Ensure that appropriate mandatory training and professional development programmes are met.

  • Adhere to, and uphold the principles of, the code of Professional Conduct and Ethics (NMBI / An Bord Altranais 2025\).

  • Ensure that modern standards of clinical nursing care are in operation.

  • Use the outcomes of audit to develop action plans and support their implementation.

  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures, e.g. health and safety, infection control, storage and use of controlled drugs etc.

  • Ensure completion of incident and near miss forms.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses \& Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI / Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) or entitled to be so registered.

  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregrate of 5 years fulltime post registration experience) of which 2 years must be in the speciality or related area.

  • Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

  • Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.

  • Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
