REQUIRED:
- Possess a recognised general nursing qualification.
- Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Have at least three years post\-registration general nursing experience most of which has been in an acute general hospital and or surgical nursing.
- Strong People Management Skills
- A degree level education is essential.
- Competent in Discharge Planning
- Have experience in Gerontology
- Teaching and assessing course is desirable
- Expressed interest in teaching and mentorship
- Have experience working with student nurses in clinical nursing practice or have training
- experience related to student nurses.
- Have demonstrable ability to analyse, report on, and effect change in nursing practice.
- Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and a high standard of verbal and written communication.
- Completed a Management Course or commitment to undertake a relevant management course.
- Leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
- Computer skills desirable
- Ability to relate effective and build productive relationships at all levels of a complex organisation.
- Display evidence of continuing professional development
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will carry out the following duties. Please note this list is not exhaustive and additional duties may be required but will be discussed in detail with the line manager.
JOB OVERVIEW
- As a key member of the front\-line management team, the CNM1 will demonstrate managerial and leadership skills and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in Clontarf Hospital.
- The candidate is responsible for the maintenance of a high standard of patient care which is achieved through professional education and development of all nursing staff, acting as an expert practitioner, participating in the formation of organizational objectives linking nursing with its goals, managing resources and facilitating communication.
- Report to the CNM2
- Deputise for the CNM2 if required
- Provide efficient, planned individualized holistic care for patients.
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document the care of patients within the service.
- Actively participate with the CNM2 in the development of nursing practice by assisting ward staff in identifying areas of practice needing development.
- Be clinically competent and willing to undertake clinical procedures for the development of practice as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development of the Scope of Professional Practice issues by ensuring developments are undertaken in a planned and structured way.
- Keep up to date with current research, ensure evidence\-based practice and research is utilized.
- Assist Clinical Nurse Manager 2 and ADON in the implementation of change and service development initiatives.
- Act as a resource for nursing staff as appropriate.
- Attend appropriate multidisciplinary committees and sub\-groups within the Department of Nursing and at hospital level that are concerned with initiating quality improvement and development projects.
- Participate in and encourage the development of evidence\-based practice.
- Assist in ward audits and metric data collection
- Monitor incident occurrence on the ward. Evaluate and initiate action plan if required.
- Communicate all finding to the ADON
- Ensure all staff comply with policy in relation to incident management
- Ensure all staff comply with the visualisation of quality outcomes on the ward
- Facilitate others in the development of audit tools to measure outcomes of nursing practice.
- Promote the achievements of nursing colleagues by encouraging staff to present at relevant opportunities.
- Assist in the development of nursing documentation.
- Undertake and encourage QI projects related to practice and assist others in project work.
- Communicate and liaise with the Clinical Nurse Manager Nursing Quality Improvement and Development, CPSNs and Quality, Safety and Risk Department Nursing Quality
- Orientate all new staff and student nurses to the service.
- Demonstrate advanced specialist knowledge, leadership and mentorship to all staff including staff nurses and health care assistants.
- Review the development of professional profiles for staff for educational development.
- Assist staff in identifying their learning needs and facilitate development.
- Complete probations under the direction of CNM2
- Ensure all mandatory training of staff is up to date, monitor this and prepare a report for the ADON as requested.
- Liaise with CPSNs and CPCs from training hospital on matters related to student nurses.
- Ensure all staff are familiar with and adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures and the Health and Safety Statement.
- Encourage staff to pursue further studies and discuss with senior nursing personnel the
- suitability of staff for further course of study.
- Share and support the development of the Nursing Strategy.
- Play an active part in the overall development of nursing throughout the hospital; this may include the facilitation of learning sets or other supervision groups in the future
- Ensure that procedures to safeguard health and welfare of staff during working hours are implemented.
- Keep abreast of new developments in nursing, and actively engage in continual professional development.
- Participate actively in in\-service education program and complete all mandatory in\-service education sessions.
- Observe and comply with Hospital Policies and Procedures and Health and Safety regulations.
- In collaboration with the CNM2 assist with the requisitioning, monitoring, storing of and use of supplies including general stores, medications, linen, CSSD items.
- Use equipment efficiently and properly to promote good care and prevent waste.
- Liaise with General Administration \- Procurement Office to ensure maintenance and upkeep of equipment.

- Participate in meetings, team meetings and committees as required.
- In collaboration with the CNM2 complete staff roster ensuring safe staffing mix
- Monitor and manage sick leave and other leave in accordance with policy.
The post holder may be required to perform other duties appropriate to the post, which may be assigned from time to time, and to contribute to the ongoing development of the role and HR service.
