A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Croydon is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Year 1 Class Teacher to join their Key Stage 1 team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident practitioner with strong Key Stage 1 experience to make a meaningful impact on pupils’ development as they transition from Early Years into the National Curriculum.
About the Role:
As a Year 1 Class Teacher, you will deliver high-quality teaching and learning in line with the Key Stage 1 curriculum, ensuring pupils build on their Early Years foundations while developing core skills in literacy, numeracy, and wider subjects. The school is looking for someone who can demonstrate excellent classroom practice and strong phonics and early reading expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons in line with the Key Stage 1 curriculum
- Accurately assess, monitor, and track pupil progress across core and foundation subjects
- Support pupils transitioning from EYFS into Year 1 expectations
- Deliver high-quality phonics teaching in line with a recognised scheme
- Create a stimulating, safe, and well-managed classroom environment
- Build strong, professional relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
- Use effective strategies to meet a range of learning needs
- Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development
- Contribute to the wider school community and enrichment activities
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (essential)
- Proven experience teaching within Key Stage 1 (preferably Year 1)
- Strong knowledge of the Key Stage 1 curriculum
- Secure phonics knowledge and early reading expertise
- Ability to deliver consistently high-quality teaching and outcomes
- Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
- Full-time classroom-based role
