Job Overview
GEM Enterprise Ltd is a structural and civil and engineering consultancy delivering design, investigations, appraisals, technical reporting, strengthening and remedial solutions, and construction\-stage support.
We are seeking a practical, organised and adaptable Civil \& Structural Engineer to join our team and contribute across a varied range of engineering projects and day\-to\-day consultancy activities.
Working with the GEM team, you will contribute to calculations, analysis, drawings, inspections and technical reports, while also supporting tenders, research, project documentation and professional correspondence. This is a broad consultancy role: engineering is central to the position, and tendering, coordination and project administration are integral responsibilities.
You should be comfortable applying engineering principles to different structures and project requirements, taking ownership of assigned tasks and seeking guidance where necessary.

- Review drawings, site records, test results and other technical information. Prepare reports, specifications, schedules and recommendations, clearly recording assumptions and limitations for technical review.
- Research technical requirements, design approaches, materials, products and suppliers, and help develop practical, safe and cost\-effective engineering solutions.
- Assist with tender reviews, bids, framework applications, supplier questionnaires, fee proposals and supporting documents; identify submission requirements and track deadlines.
- Draft professional emails, technical enquiries, meeting minutes and project correspondence. Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and specialists to obtain information and progress agreed actions.
- Support project planning and construction\-stage engineering activities, including site observations and preparation of relevant quality, risk and health\-and\-safety documentation within GEM’s agreed scope.
- Maintain organised project files, field records, drawing and report registers, tender trackers and revision histories. Contribute to other reasonable engineering and project\-support duties consistent with the role.
Skills and Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Civil and Structural Engineering, or a recognised equivalent degree qualification.
- Relevant practical civil or structural engineering experience, with demonstrable involvement in calculations, drawings, site work and technical reporting.
- Sound understanding of structural behaviour, load paths and common construction materials, including reinforced concrete, steel, timber and masonry.
- Knowledge of applicable British Standards, Eurocodes and UK National Annexes, together with relevant Building Regulations and awareness of CDM requirements.
- Working proficiency in AutoCAD and practical experience with at least one structural\-analysis package, such as SAP2000, Autodesk Robot, ETABS, Tekla Structural Designer or equivalent.
- Strong written and spoken English, including the ability to understand technical documents and site instructions and prepare clear reports, tender responses and professional emails. Good Microsoft Word, Excel and PDF\-document skills are essential.
- Strong research, organisation and problem\-solving skills; attention to detail; and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while working collaboratively with the team.
- A valid CSCS card appropriate to the role, or eligibility and willingness to obtain one before attendance at sites that require it, together with willingness to complete relevant inductions and task\-specific training.
