About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Deputy Manager to support the leadership and day\-to\-day operation of our Children's Residential Home.
The Deputy Manager plays a pivotal role in providing safe, nurturing, and child\-centred care to children and young people while supporting and leading the staff team. Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will help ensure the home operates to the highest standards, meeting the individual needs of children and supporting staff to deliver exceptional care.
You will lead and mentor Team Leaders and Residential Support Workers, help embed a positive and supportive culture, and ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations and organisational policies.

What You'll Be DoingLeadership \& Team Management
- Support the Registered Manager in leading the home and deputise in their absence.
- Mentor, guide, and supervise Team Leaders and Residential Support Workers.
- Conduct regular supervisions, appraisals, and performance reviews.
- Assist with staff recruitment, induction, and training.
- Plan and manage staff rotas to ensure safe staffing levels and meet the needs of children.
- Ensure high\-quality, child\-centred care is delivered consistently.
- Support children with daily routines, education, activities, and life skills development.
- Build positive relationships with children and families.
- Promote a safe, nurturing, and supportive living environment.
- Promote and maintain a strong safeguarding culture throughout the home.
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies are implemented effectively.
- Support staff in managing challenging behaviour and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to care planning and review processes.
- Support compliance with Ofsted regulations and relevant legislation.
- Assist with audits, quality assurance processes, and policy implementation.
- Oversee health and safety, fire safety, and risk assessments.
- Contribute to budgeting, resource management, and operational planning.
- Develop positive relationships with families, social workers, education providers, and other professionals.
- Support children to maintain meaningful family and community connections where appropriate.
- Participate in mandatory training and continuous professional development.
- Encourage and support the development of staff within the home.
- Comply with all organisational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of practice.
- Undertake additional duties as required to support the safe and effective running of the home.
- Model the organisation's values and promote a positive team culture.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Enhanced DBS check suitable for working with children and young people.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and supervisory abilities.
- Ability to remain calm, reflective, and resilient under pressure.
- Genuine passion for improving the lives of children and young people.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and support a high\-performing team.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards).
- Experience as a Team Leader or Deputy Manager within residential childcare.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing staff.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience working in a regulated residential care environment.
- Experience supporting children with complex needs and/or challenging behaviours.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and risk assessment.
- Understanding of staff supervision, coaching, and performance management.
- Knowledge of HR processes including recruitment, induction, disciplinary, grievance, and performance improvement procedures.
- Experience of budgeting and operational management.
