Children and Young Persons (CYP) Navigator

Salary: £27,145\.46

Location: Community\-based across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, with regular delivery in Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), police custody and other agreed community settings

Contract: Full Time Permanent

This role involves working during key engagement hours, typically between 3:00pm and 12:00am, when young people are most likely to present at hospital or be in police custody. Flexible working patterns and well\-managed shift arrangements support a healthy work–life balance.

For many children and young people, a moment of crisis can become a turning point. With the right support, positive change is possible. That's where you come in.

We're looking for a CYP Navigator – someone with a rare mix of compassion, resilience, organisation and flexibility. Someone who understands that supporting young people isn't just about offering advice; it's about building trust, creating opportunities and helping them take positive steps towards a safer future.

You'll be working with children and young people who may be affected by violence, exploitation, trauma or other complex challenges. Some may be reluctant to engage, but when you help a young person feel safer, more confident and connected to the right support, it can have a lasting impact.

About the Role:

You'll support children and young people aged 11–25 who are vulnerable to, affected by, or involved in violence and associated harm.

Working across hospital, police custody and community settings, you'll engage young people at key moments and provide timely, trauma\-informed support. Through one\-to\-one interventions, mentoring and advocacy, you'll help young people identify goals, reduce risks and access the services and opportunities they need to thrive.

You'll work closely with families, professionals and community partners to ensure young people receive coordinated support throughout their journey.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Assessment and Planning: Complete strengths\-based assessments and develop safety plans, goal plans and support plans with young people.

  • Caseload Management: Manage a varied caseload, balancing the needs of young people while maintaining accurate records and meeting service requirements.

  • Advocacy and Signposting: Support young people to access education, training, employment, positive activities and specialist services.

  • Safeguarding and Risk Management: Identify safeguarding concerns and take appropriate action to support and protect children and young people.

  • One\-to\-One Support: Deliver tailored interventions, mentoring and practical support that help young people build confidence, resilience and positive life skills.

  • Partnership Working: Work collaboratively with health, police, youth justice, education, social care and community organisations to ensure coordinated support.
What We're Looking For:
  • Relationship Building: You'll be able to build genuine, trusting relationships with young people, families and professionals in a way that is supportive, respectful and non\-judgemental.

  • Safeguarding Awareness: You'll be confident identifying risks and safeguarding concerns, responding appropriately and following agreed procedures.

  • Communication and Advocacy Skills: You'll be able to engage effectively with young people and ensure their voice, wishes and experiences are heard.

  • IT and Administrative Skills: You'll maintain accurate records of assessments, interventions and outcomes, ensuring progress is effectively tracked.

  • Resilience: This role can be challenging, and progress may take time, but you're the kind of person who remains committed and focused on achieving positive outcomes for young people.
Whilst we welcome applications from those with lived experience, this role requires an enhanced DBS check and Police vetting. Due to the time required to complete these checks, successful candidates will be offered a start date at least 6 weeks from the point of job offer. This should allow sufficient time for all necessary pre\-employment clearances to be obtained
