Childcare Assistant
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Childcare Assistant to support children and Young People with Disabilities and Complex Health Needs of the children in our Home Care Services. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine commitment to providing safe, compassionate, personalised care to children and young people with disabilities and complex health needs. Promote dignity, independence, communication, wellbeing and participation while supporting families and following individual care plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Support personal care, dressing, toileting, nutrition, mobility and daily routines, respecting privacy, preferences and cultural needs.
- Encourage choice, independence, play, learning and community participation through activities appropriate to each child’s abilities.
- Communicate using each child’s preferred methods, including speech, visual aids, signs or communication devices.
- Follow individual risk assessments, positive behaviour support plans and agreed strategies for preventing distress and supporting emotional regulation.
- Administer medication and undertake delegated healthcare tasks only following relevant training, assessment, written instructions and documented competency approval.
- Where required, provide epilepsy support, enteral feeding or respiratory care within the authorised care plan and personal competence.
- Recognise changes in health or behaviour, follow emergency procedures and promptly escalate concerns.
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns through Observe Care’s reporting procedures.
- Maintain accurate, timely electronic care records and protect confidential information.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, colleagues and relevant professionals.
- Attend induction, training, supervision, competency assessments and service reviews.
- Deliver reliable support, including evenings, weekends and waking nights where required.
Essential qualities include compassion, patience, reliability, effective communication, professional boundaries and commitment to children’s rights. Applicants must demonstrate willingness to learn and follow care instructions.
Experience supporting children with disabilities, autism or complex health needs is desirable. Relevant care qualifications and driving ability are advantageous where required for the package.
Appointment is subject to satisfactory references, identity and right\-to\-work checks, and an enhanced DBS check, including the children’s barred list where eligible.

Pay: £14\.00\-£15\.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20\.0 – 37\.5 per week
