Chef – Middleton Hall Care Home Overview
Middleton Hall Care Home is seeking a passionate and dedicated Chef to lead our kitchen team in delivering high\-quality, nutritious, and safe meals for our residents.
This role is ideal for a Chef who understands the unique needs of a nursing home environment, where food plays a vital role in residents' health, wellbeing, and overall quality of life. You will be responsible for preparing meals that are not only delicious and well\-presented but also tailored to meet a variety of clinical dietary requirements, including modified texture diets.
The successful candidate will combine culinary expertise, strong leadership, and a compassionate approach to cater for elderly residents, including those living with dysphagia and other medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring the consistent delivery of high\-quality, nutritious meals
- Plan and develop menus suitable for a nursing home setting, considering nutritional balance, resident preferences, and dietary needs
- Prepare and deliver meals in accordance with IDDSI guidelines, including texture\-modified diets for residents with dysphagia
- Ensure all food is prepared, presented, and served safely, maintaining dignity and enjoyment for residents
- Manage food safety, hygiene, and compliance with all health and regulatory standards
- Monitor and control stock levels, minimise waste, and manage ordering within budget requirements
- Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff, promoting a positive and efficient working environment
- Coordinate meal service to align with care routines and ensure timely delivery to residents
- Work closely with care staff and management to support residents’ individual dietary care plans
- Ensure clear communication between kitchen and care teams to support high standards of resident care
- Essential: Previous experience working in a Care Home or Nursing Home kitchen
- Strong understanding of dysphagia and modified texture diets (IDDSI framework)
- Experience preparing meals for individuals with complex dietary and medical needs
- Proven ability to manage a busy, high\-volume kitchen environment
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and nutrition in a healthcare setting
- Experience in menu planning, stock control, and cost management
- Ability to work with empathy, patience, and a resident\-focused approach
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with care teams
- IDDSI trained (or willingness to undertake training)
- Care Home / Nursing Home kitchen experience is mandatory
- Understanding of safeguarding, food safety, and health compliance within a care environment
