JOB TITLE:Senior Support Worker

REPORTS TO:Line Manager /deputy of the service

HOURS:

Flexible 24 hour cover, shift work including weekends, evenings, nights and bank holidays as required.

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the Home Manager \& Deputy Manager in managing a staffed residential home for older people with Dementia.

To help promote a stimulating, caring and culturally appropriate environment

for the Service Users, ensuring privacy ,dignity, choice, independence and their rights are maintained and respected at all times. To provide practical and emotional support to enable Service Users under the guidance of the Management team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • To take charge of an entire shift To administer medication in accordance to the Home policies and adhering to current legislation.

  • To work closely with Service Users and their families in accordance to their person centred care plans.

  • To deputise in the absence of the Home Manager and Deputy Manager.

  • To lead shifts as most senior person on duty when directed to do so by the Home Manager or Deputy Home Manager, ensuring the health and safety of every person is maintained.

  • Being responsible for anticipating Service User’s needs and communicating these needs to other staff and professionals involved.

  • Writing review reports and other reports as necessary.

  • Being involved in review meetings concerning Service Users.

  • To take the role of a key worker ensuring the setting up, implementing and evaluating of person centred care plans for Service Users.

  • To help and support new Service Users settle into the home.
To participate in the full range of caring duties including:
  • Helping Service Users with leisure interests and any other meaningful activities inside and outside the home.

  • Domestic duties (washing, cleaning, cooking etc) as necessary.

  • Listening to Service Users, including their feelings about any difficulties they may be having and taking prompt action.

  • Providing personal care to Service Users enabling them to look clean and attractive.

  • Helping Service Users to keep their possessions and living areas clean, tidy and safe.

  • Communicating with other staff about Service Users’ needs/activities.

  • Recording Service User’s needs/activities/behaviours in the home’s diary system.

  • Facilitating regular Service User meetings.

  • To help ensure that each Service User’s health needs are met including:

  • Liaising with medical services (e.g. GP, Dentist)

  • Ensuring the implementation of appropriate medication procedures.

  • Establishing good relationships with Service Users’ relatives, friends, volunteers and advocates.

  • Ensuring up to date records are kept in Service Users files.

  • To work closely and in a professional manner with other professionals, both within and outside the Home e.g. GPs, Consultants, Social Workers.

  • To use communication systems effectively e.g. diary, log book etc, and verbally to colleagues.

  • To participate in staff meetings, training courses and supervision sessions.

  • To be a constructive member of the staff team, e.g. to work to the guidance of the Home Leader/Deputy and work co\-operatively with fellow workers and to use own initiative.

  • To undertake any delegated tasks from the Manager such as weekly checks and monitoring.

  • To act in accordance and be conversant with all policies, e.g. Health and Safety, Admission Procedures, Fire Drill etc.

  • To work in a way consistent with the principles of ‘normalisation’ and ‘Equal Opportunities’ i.e. To support each Service User practical skills and social status that are valued within their communities. To have anti\-racist and anti\-sexist work practices, which help Service Users value anti\-discriminatory attitudes and behaviour.

  • To act as a role model and offer support to junior staff where required.

  • To ensure that Service users or any staff issues are discussed in private in order to maintain confidentiality.

  • To be able to deal with staff conflicts and seek help/advise from Manager/deputy if necessary.

  • To demonstrate good customer service skills.

  • To keep up to date with current legislations, research and training.

  • To be prepared to do on call duties.
Please note this list is not exhaustive and may be subject to changes in line with new legislation and to meet the needs of the service.

Needs to have NVQ L2 or above in Health and Social Care or equivalent. Please note the post is mainly for a carer but must be willing to train as a senior to support the Home where needed.

The person must be flexible and be able to work 24 hrs cover, be prepared to work weekends, nights and bank holidays.

We would welcome people from Ukraine who knows how to read, write and speak some English.

Job Types: Full\-time, Permanent

Pay: £12\.71\-£14\.00 per hour
