Cardiac Scrub Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)

The Role As a Cardiac Scrub Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the surgical team by preparing theatres, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing expert scrub assistance during a wide range of cardiac procedures.
Key Responsibilities • Scrub for a variety of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve replacements, and other complex cardiac operations.
- Prepare, check, and maintain specialist cardiac surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensure theatres are fully prepared prior to each procedure.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon throughout procedures and provide efficient scrub support.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, perfusionists, and the wider theatre team.
- Complete accurate clinical documentation in line with local policies.
- Deliver safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery.
- Previous experience working as a Cardiac Scrub Practitioner.
- Competent in scrubbing for major cardiac surgical procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of cardiac theatre protocols and infection prevention.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain calm and organised in a fast-paced theatre environment.
- Right to work in the UK.
