Café Manager – The Menu Cakery, Halfway, Co. Cork

Salary: €32,000 – €39,000 DOE (Competitive Wage \- depending on experience)

Job Type: Full\-time, Permanent

Schedule: 5 days per week, including weekends

Location: Halfway, Co. Cork, T12 P899

About Us

The Menu Cakery is an independent bakery and café based in Halfway, Co. Cork.
We are passionate about creating exceptional cakes, baked goods, sandwiches and speciality coffee, whilst delivering outstanding customer experiences.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Café Manager to lead our front\-of\-house operation. This is a hands\-on role for someone who enjoys being part of the daily service while also taking ownership of the operational success of the café.

The Role

As Café Manager, you will be responsible for the day\-to\-day running of the café, ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining high standards, supporting and developing the team, and driving operational performance.

This is a working management role – you will lead from the front, working alongside the team during service, making coffees, supporting customers, and ensuring smooth daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operations \& Leadership

  • Oversee the day\-to\-day running of the café

  • Lead, motivate and support the team to deliver exceptional customer service

  • Create and manage staff rosters to meet operational needs and labour targets

  • Conduct team briefings and maintain clear communication across the business

  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding and staff training

  • Manage employee performance and uphold company standards

  • Manage existing systems while further developing systems
Financial \& Administrative
  • Daily cash handling, reconciliation and banking procedures

  • Monitor labour costs and assist in achieving budget targets

  • Support the business in achieving sales targets and identifying opportunities for growth

  • Produce weekly operational updates
Stock \& Standards
  • Manage stock ordering and supplier relationships

  • Monitor stock levels, minimise waste and maintain stock control systems

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP procedures, food safety regulations and health \& safety standards

  • Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer experience
Hands\-On Service
  • Work alongside the team during busy service periods

  • Prepare and create high\-quality coffees and beverages

  • Support front\-of\-house operations including till service and customer interactions

  • Assist with opening and closing procedures where scheduled
About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in a Café Manager, Assistant Manager or similar leadership role

  • Strong barista experience and confidence working in a busy café environment

  • Experience with staff rostering and team management

  • Excellent organisational and problem\-solving skills with a can do attitude

  • Strong understanding of food safety and HACCP practices

  • Experience with cash management and stock ordering

  • A positive, proactive and hands\-on approach to leadership

  • The ability to remain calm and effective in a fast\-paced environment

  • A genuine passion for hospitality and customer service

  • Own means of transport
Desirable \- But not essential for the right candidate
  • Experience working within an independent café or bakery

  • Advanced barista skills including latte art training, grinder calibration and coffee quality control

  • Knowledge of labour cost control and sales performance management

  • Previous experience using Square POS systems and scheduling software
