Reporting to the UK Health \& Safety Director, you’ll play a critical leadership role in shaping and delivering health and safety strategy across SP Energy Networks. You’ll drive the operational implementation of group\-wide policies and programmes, ensuring a consistent, high\-performing approach to health and safety across transmission and distribution networks.

This is a highly influential position where you’ll partner with senior leaders, employees, contractors and external stakeholders to deliver world\-class safety performance. Your work will directly support operational excellence, protect communities and infrastructure, and contribute to the transition to a safer, more sustainable, Net Zero future.

*What you’ll be doing*

You’ll provide visible leadership and direction for health and safety across the Networks business, ensuring full compliance with legislation while embedding a strong and sustainable safety culture. You’ll lead the development and delivery of the health and safety strategy, aligning business priorities with group objectives and driving continuous improvement across all activities.

You’ll oversee governance frameworks for both employees and contractors, ensuring robust controls are in place across a diverse and complex operational environment. Alongside this, you’ll lead responses to major incidents, managing investigations and engaging with senior stakeholders to protect the organisation’s reputation. And you’ll influence key external bodies, including regulators and industry groups, while promoting best practice and ensuring the ongoing achievement of recognised safety standards and certifications.

*What you’ll bring*

You’ll bring extensive experience leading health and safety at both strategic and operational levels within a large, complex organisation, ideally within the energy or utilities sector. You’ll be confident influencing at senior levels and building strong relationships internally and externally, including with regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders.

And you’ll combine strong technical expertise with the ability to navigate complex challenges, offering clear, practical solutions. *You will also bring:*

  • Degree\-level education in health and safety (or equivalent experience)

  • Chartered IOSH membership (or working towards)

  • A strong track record of leading change and delivering measurable improvements

  • Experience developing and implementing health and safety strategies and operating plans

  • The ability to lead, coach and develop high\-performing teams
