£20.00 – £24.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
Company Overview
We are working with a well-established, family-run business based in Ipswich. The business prides itself on reliability, professionalism and long-standing customer relationships. We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to support the Directors with the day-to-day financial management of the business and associated rental properties.
Summary of the Role
This is a hands-on, part-time position responsible for managing the company’s accounting function from daily bookkeeping through to preparation of information for year-end accounts. The role will suit an experienced bookkeeper or accountant, ideally Part/ AAT qualified (or qualified by experience), who is confident using Sage Line 50, Sage Payroll and Xero, and enjoys working closely with business owners in a small, friendly environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain company and rental property accounts using Sage Line 50 and Xero up to Trial Balance
- Raise customer invoices on a weekly and monthly basis
- Process supplier invoices and prepare payment runs
- Enter bank payments and receipts and complete regular bank reconciliations
- Maintain and manage the fixed asset register
- Process prepayments, accruals and depreciation
- Prepare monthly management accounts and reports
- Process four-weekly payroll using Sage Payroll, including SSP and attachments of earnings
- Manage Nest Pension submissions and ensure compliance with The Pensions Regulator
- Submit payroll RTI to HMRC in a timely manner
- Ensure PAYE, CIS and VAT returns are submitted accurately and on time
- Manage credit control processes to minimise bad debts
- Issue legal notices where required
- Monitor customer accounts and follow up overdue balances
- Manage CIS for both customers and suppliers
- Submit monthly CIS returns and ensure correct deductions and payments
- Job costing and quote preparation
- Analyse departmental turnover and salaries for commercial insurance purposes
- Control and monitor contracts for utilities and commercial insurance
- Liaise with external accountants to support preparation of statutory and year-end accounts
- Liaise with external IT support as required
- Submit government claims as required
- Support HR-related administration - leavers/starters/P45/P60
- Assist with business projects such as implementing new systems
- Carry out additional duties as required to support the business
- Proven experience in a similar bookkeeping or accounting role
- Strong working knowledge of Sage Line 50, Sage Payroll and Xero
- Sound understanding of UK payroll, CIS, VAT and HMRC reporting requirements
- Experience preparing management accounts and liaising with external accountants
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
- Confident communicator, comfortable working closely with Directors
- AAT qualification preferred, or qualified by experience
