Rochdale Council's Environmental Management team are looking for a Bin Delivery Driver. This role is crucial in providing a professional, efficient, and customer-focused service by delivering and collecting a range of waste and recycling containers to residential properties across the Rochdale Borough.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Deliver and collect various sizes of refuse and recycling containers to residential properties, including 140 litre, 240 litre, 360 litre bins, and 1100 litre Euro bins.


• Load and unload bins safely using a 3.5 tonne Luton van fitted with a tail lift.


• Use a tablet-based system to accurately log deliveries, collections, and any issues encountered.


• Carry out daily vehicle checks and report defects in line with fleet procedures.


• Liaise professionally with residents and council staff, providing clear information where required.


• Follow all health and safety procedures, including manual handling, tail lift operation, and lone working protocols.


• Plan routes effectively to ensure timely completion of daily workloads across the borough.


• Maintain cleanliness, security, and safe operation of the vehicle and equipment.


• Support other Environmental Management services when required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Full UK driving licence.


• Experience driving a 3.5 tonne vehicle or similar commercial vehicle.


• Good timekeeping and attendance.


• Ability to work independently and use own initiative.


• Ability to safely handle and manoeuvre various sizes of waste containers.


• Confident using tablet or mobile technology for recording work activities.


• Polite, positive, and professional attitude when dealing with the public and colleagues.


• Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling tasks.

Desirable Requirements:

• Good knowledge of the Rochdale Borough, including Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale, and the Pennines.


• Experience working within a local authority or Environmental Management service.


• Previous customer-facing or delivery experience.
