We are seeking a Bank Chef to join our friendly care home team in Walsall.
As a Bank Chef, you will provide essential cover during staff absences, holidays, and busy periods. Your role will help ensure our residents enjoy nutritious, well presented meals in a warm, homely environment.
You’ll play an important part in supporting the wellbeing, comfort, and dignity of every resident through high\-quality food and personalised dietary care.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Home Manager \& Head Chef
JOB PURPOSE
· To take full responsibility for the management of the kitchen
· To take full responsibility of the day to day operations to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
- To support and meet the dietary needs of the residents.
- To provide varied wholesome and nutritious food in sufficient quantities.
- Flexibly cover shifts at short notice when needed
- Food Preparation and cooking NVQ Level 2 \& 3 (achieved or working towards) or City \& Guilds 706 \- 1 \& 2\.
- Previous experience
- Understanding of nutrition
- Team working skills
- Good Communication Skills
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting adults
- Reliable, organised, and confident in producing meals for varied needs
- Intermediate Food / Hygiene Certificate
- Experience of Food Preparation for the relevant Client group
- Previous supervisory experience
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Flexibility in working
- Good organizational skill
- Previous care home experience
- IDDSI training
Food Preparation:
- Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, as and when required.
- Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary, and take into account the preferences of individual residents.
- Cater for modified textures, allergies, and specialist diets (e.g., diabetic, low\-salt)
- To prepare all orders for goods weekly and to determine the quality and quantity upon delivery to ensure adequate stock control.
- To meet all residents on admission and take note of their dietary preferences and needs.
- To implement, by delegation where appropriate, the cleaning schedule and to assume responsibility for its satisfactory completion.
- To maintain and record freezer / fridge temperatures.
- To maintain and monitor HASAP records.
- Ensure all information regarding the changing needs of the resident is up\-to\-date and implemented into the resident’s diet, with regular meetings with nursing staff.
- Arrange / participate in Staff and Resident meetings as required.
- Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
- Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer / fridge temperatures.
- To reconcile resident, guest meal numbers daily.
- To organise and supervise methods of work and undertake on\-the\-job training for juniors in all aspects of food preparation, cooking and presentation.
- Employees are responsible for being aware of the responsibilities placed upon them under the Health \& Safety Act (1974\) and to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, residents and visitors.
- Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and, where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively.
- Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another.
- Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Care Homes Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
- Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
- Promote safe working practice in the Care Home.
- To participate in staff meetings and training activities as required.
- To ensure Training \& Development folders are used and updated following training.
- Supervise and instruct Kitchen Staff Members in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate.
- Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
- Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
- To ensure that standards of care and work are maintained as set down by the Home Manager or Deputy in his/her absence
- To adhere to all policy and procedures as laid down by Absolute Healthcare.
- To contribute to the development of the Policies and Procedures.
- All information concerning residents and staff must be treated as strictly confidential at all times.
