Health Connections is looking for reliable, caring and professional Ambulance Care Assistants to join our growing patient transport team on a bank contract.

This is a flexible role, ideal for someone looking to work around other commitments while supporting our Patient Transport Service. Shifts are offered based on operational demand and your availability, which may include weekdays, evenings and weekends.

As an Ambulance Care Assistant, you will be responsible for safely transporting patients to and from hospitals, appointments, care settings and home addresses. You will support patients throughout their journey, provide reassurance, assist with mobility where required, and ensure every patient is treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

This role would suit someone who is caring, dependable, calm under pressure and able to represent the company professionally while working in healthcare environments.

Main Duties

As an Ambulance Care Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Transporting patients safely, professionally and on time.

  • Assisting patients to and from vehicles, hospitals, wards, clinics and home addresses.

  • Supporting patients with mobility needs, including wheelchair users where required.

  • Ensuring patients are treated with dignity, kindness and respect.

  • Communicating professionally with patients, relatives, hospital staff, care home staff and control room teams.

  • Completing patient journeys in line with company procedures.

  • Carrying out vehicle checks and reporting any issues.

  • Keeping vehicles clean, tidy and ready for operational use.

  • Following infection prevention and control procedures.

  • Recording journey information accurately.

  • Reporting delays, concerns or incidents to Control.

  • Working safely as part of a crew.

  • Supporting discharges, appointments, transfers and other patient transport work.

  • Maintaining a calm and professional approach at all times.

Experience

Previous experience in ambulance care, patient transport, healthcare, care work, support work, mental health, logistics or customer\-facing roles would be beneficial.

However, full consideration will be given to applicants with the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Good standard of personal presentation.

  • Flexible availability to work shifts as required.

  • Willingness to complete all required training.

Desirable Experience
  • Patient Transport Service experience.

  • Ambulance Care Assistant experience.

  • Healthcare or care sector experience.

  • Wheelchair handling experience.

  • Manual handling training.

  • Experience working with vulnerable people.

  • Knowledge of hospital or NHS environments.

Hours: No guaranteed hours. Shifts offered in line with business needs and your availability.
