ASPH Imaging department has all new state of the art digital imaging equipment with an effective equipment replacement programme. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who is competent in all general x\-ray with a passion for expanding their skills. We actively encourage CPD and have a full 7 day shifts system with currently a shift allowance.

The post holder is expected

To perform and maintain high standards of radiographic imaging as determined by the work rota

To participate in the shift system and weekend duties. Will be expected to participate in the interventional on call rota when suitably trained.

To be involved with service delivery and service improvement for the benefit of the patient

To maintain high clinical standards, particularly regarding patient care, clinical risk and Health and Safety

To liaise with other Health Care Professionals and departmental staff on a daily basis

To continue to develop ones own knowledge, practice and development through continued professional development

To understand the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure a safe working environment for patients, staff, visitors and staff according to the Trusts’ Health and Safety Policy

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST:

Clinical or technical

To rotate around all general radiographic areas; in\-patient, out\-patient, dental, fluoroscopy, theatre and mobiles, A\&E and fracture clinic.

To demonstrate the skill, knowledge and understanding necessary to carry out and obtain the appropriate diagnostic images.

Demonstrate an understanding of the scientific principles that form the theoretical basis of radiography.

To perform radiographic imaging examinations to a high standard at all times.

To assist the Consultant Radiologists with specialised fluoroscopic procedures and ultrasound examinations as required.

To be trained in cannulation, venepuncture and the administration of contrast media.

Adhere to the standard operating procedures, departmental protocols and local rules for the department.

Ability to make informed judgements on the justification for a radiographic examination.

Clinically evaluate the outcome of certain radiographic examinations within the framework of an abnormality detection scheme (red dot).

Competent in undertaking the “trauma call” when working within the A\&E emergency setting.

Have a basic knowledge and understanding of a range of imaging methods (CT, MRI, ultrasound and nuclear medicine).

Ensure the service to the patient is polite, personal and professional at all times.

Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and non\-verbal. Deal with distressed and upset patients in a positive and comforting manner.

To liaise with consultants, nursing, clerical and ward staff within the hospitals for the benefit of patient care.

To evaluate and meet the needs of special client groups. These include; paediatrics, geriatrics, ethnic minorities and clients with physical and learning disabilities. Must be able to adapt their radiographic practice, communicate and care for the special client group whilst within the radiology department.

Maintain high standards of cleanliness, ensure departmental policies and procedures are followed to prevent hospital acquired infection.

Report any equipment malfunction to the Superintendent Radiographer or radiographer in charge promptly.

Competent using the Radiology computer system and keep abreast of technological changes within the radiology department.

Is expected to participate in the Extended Working Day rota and take part in the interventional on call

Education

Participate in staff development/training programmes including Quality Assurance and Individual Performance Review.

To maintain a personal continuous professional development, training and education portfolio.

Maintain continued competency in emergency resuscitation, manual handling techniques and fire regulations. To attend the appropriate training as required by the Trust

Clinical Governance Responsibilities

To maintain and further professional development.

To participate in the Quality Assurance Programmes such as Health \& Safety, COSHH, Radiation Protection, Equipment Maintenance, Risk Assessment, Clinical and Departmental audit, and Quality Improvements on x\-ray equipment, fluoroscopic unit and image intensifiers.

In conjunction with the superintendent radiographers to ensure that General X\-Ray, Fluoroscopy and Theatre services meet relevant legal and statutory requirements in all aspects of operations, such as Health \& Safety, COSHH, Radiation Protection, Equipment Maintenance and Quality Assurance.

To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work.
