Audit Senior

Location: London

Working pattern: Hybrid, 3 days in the office / 2 days from home

Employment type: Permanent, full time

You’ve done enough audit work to know what good looks like. Now you need a role that helps you get there.

At Audit Senior level, the basics are probably already familiar.

Planning meetings. Fieldwork. Client requests. Review points. Completion sections. Managers asking for updates. Juniors needing support. Deadlines that always seem closer than they looked last week.

So let’s not pretend this is a mysterious role.

The real question is whether your next move gives you better exposure, more responsibility and a clearer route forward.

This Audit Senior position sits within the London audit team of a long-established accountancy and advisory firm. You’ll be supporting the delivery of audit work across the department, making sure assignments are completed on time, to standard and within budget, while developing the kind of client and team leadership skills that matter at the next level.

If you want to be treated like someone ready to step up — not just someone useful for clearing file sections — this is worth considering.

Why this role has more to it

You’ll be close to the full audit process, not just one part of it.

You’ll arrange and lead audit planning meetings, prepare or delegate key areas of audit work, monitor progress, review junior work and help bring files through to completion.

You’ll also prepare key completion sections, including going concern and key audit findings reports, and make sure files are ready for Manager review. Where issues are more complex or higher risk, you’ll research them, work through what you can and escalate properly when senior input is needed.

That balance is useful. You get the responsibility to grow, but you are not expected to bluff your way through complex areas alone.

The client contact is real

A good Audit Senior is often the person who keeps the audit moving day to day.

In this role, you’ll act as a key point of contact for nominated clients during fieldwork, keeping communication clear and making sure promises are followed through wherever possible.

You’ll also be involved outside the immediate audit process where relevant — maintaining relationship momentum, helping arrange stocktakes, attending audit review and close-down meetings, and making sure client admin such as AML, KYC reviews and engagement letters are properly handled.

That may not sound glamorous, but it is exactly the kind of exposure that helps you become more confident, more commercial and more trusted.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved in:

  • Leading allocated audit work and keeping workflow moving

  • Arranging and leading audit planning meetings

  • Preparing or delegating key client audit work

  • Monitoring progress against budgets, deadlines and quality standards

  • Keeping clients, Managers, Partners and internal stakeholders updated

  • Researching audit issues and escalating complex or higher-risk areas where needed

  • Preparing completion sections, including going concern and key audit findings reports

  • Completing audit file administration and preparing sections for review

  • Reviewing Audit Assistant work and clearing review points

  • Supporting Audit Semi Seniors, Assistants and outsourced team members where required

  • Acting as a key client contact during audit fieldwork

  • Attending audit review and close-down meetings

  • Supporting AML, KYC and engagement letter processes

  • Contributing to billing preparation where required

  • Applying lessons from one audit to the next, rather than starting from scratch every time

Who this will suit

This will suit someone who is ACA or ACCA qualified and already working in audit within practice.

You’ll need to be organised, technically sound and comfortable managing your own workload. You should be confident enough to take ownership, but sensible enough to ask for help when something needs Manager, Senior Manager or Partner input.

You’ll also need to be good with people. Not in a forced, “client service buzzword” way — just someone who communicates clearly, responds properly and helps clients and junior colleagues feel like things are under control.

If you’re looking for a role that helps you build towards Assistant Manager, this gives you the right ingredients: client contact, planning exposure, review responsibility, junior supervision and senior support.

What would help you settle in quickly

  • ACA or ACCA qualification

  • Audit experience gained in practice

  • Confidence leading planning meetings and fieldwork

  • Experience reviewing junior work

  • Good understanding of audit completion sections and review processes

  • Ability to manage deadlines, budgets and workflow

  • Clear communication with clients and internal teams

  • Confidence escalating technical issues appropriately

  • A genuine interest in progressing beyond Audit Senior level

What’s in it for you?

You’ll get hybrid working, 25.5 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, holiday buying, contributory pension, life assurance, health cash plan, income protection, private medical insurance, critical illness insurance, Employee Assistance Programme, counselling support, annual flu jab, discounts and rewards.

There are also family-friendly policies, monthly recognition awards, internal and external training, clear progression routes, paid volunteering time, charitable giving options, cycle to work and interest-free travel or vehicle loan options where applicable.

The useful bit is this: you’ll be in a role where you can keep developing without needing to leave London for better progression or sit in a huge team where it’s hard to be noticed.
