Audit Senior

Location: Chatham

Working pattern: Hybrid, 3 days in the office / 2 days from home

Employment type: Permanent, full time

A proper Audit Senior role in Kent — without needing to commute into London to progress.

If you’re already working in audit, you probably know the drill.

Planning meetings, client requests, juniors asking questions, Managers chasing updates, completion sections, review points, deadlines that move quicker than expected.

So this advert is not going to pretend audit is something mysterious.

What matters is whether your next role gives you more ownership, better client exposure, a good team around you and a clear route to keep progressing.

This Audit Senior role is based in Chatham, within a long-established accountancy and advisory firm with offices across Kent, Sussex and London. The Chatham Maritime office supports businesses and individuals across Chatham, Rainham, Ramsgate, Maidstone, Gravesend, Dartford, Sittingbourne and the surrounding area, so you’ll be working in a proper Kent client market rather than feeling like a satellite office with no substance.

If you want to keep building your audit career locally, but still be part of a firm with wider reach and proper technical support, this is a strong move.

The job in plain English

You’ll support the delivery of audit work across the department, making sure assignments are completed on time, to the right standard and within budget.

You’ll arrange and lead audit planning meetings, prepare or delegate key audit work, monitor progress and keep clients and internal stakeholders updated.

You’ll also prepare completion sections, including going concern and key audit findings reports, complete audit file administration and make sure files are ready for Manager review.

You’ll be supervising Audit Semi Seniors and Assistants too, so this is a good role if you’re ready to build more confidence in reviewing work, giving feedback and helping junior people improve.

Why someone would move for it

Because you’ll be treated like someone who is ready for the next stage, not just someone there to churn through testing.

You’ll get:

  • Client contact during audit fieldwork

  • Responsibility for planning meetings and workflow

  • Exposure to Partners and colleagues across other service lines

  • The chance to supervise junior audit team members

  • Review responsibility and completion exposure

  • A hybrid pattern of 3 days in the office and 2 from home

  • Clear development support and progression routes

  • A role based in Chatham, not London, while still being part of a wider South East firm

That combination is useful if you’re aiming towards Assistant Manager but want to build that confidence properly.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved in:

  • Delivering allocated audit work and keeping workflow on track

  • Arranging and leading audit planning meetings

  • Preparing or delegating key areas of client audit work

  • Monitoring progress against budgets, deadlines and quality standards

  • Keeping clients, Managers, Partners and internal stakeholders updated

  • Researching audit issues and escalating complex or higher-risk matters where needed

  • Preparing going concern and key audit findings reports

  • Completing audit file administration and setting up file reviews

  • Reviewing work prepared by Audit Assistants

  • Clearing Manager and RI review points

  • Supporting Semi Seniors, Assistants and outsourced team members

  • Acting as a key client contact during audit fieldwork

  • Maintaining client contact outside the main audit process where relevant

  • Attending audit review and close-down meetings

  • Supporting AML, KYC reviews and engagement letters

  • Contributing to billing preparation where required

  • Applying what you learn from one audit to the next

Who this will suit

This role will suit someone who is ACA or ACCA qualified and already has audit experience within practice.

You’ll need to be technically sound, organised and able to manage deadlines without needing constant chasing. You’ll also need to communicate properly — with clients, junior colleagues, Managers, Partners and other service lines.

You don’t have to be the loudest person in the room. But you do need to be reliable, clear and confident enough to keep jobs moving and flag issues early.

If you enjoy client contact, like supporting junior team members and want to keep moving towards Assistant Manager level, this should suit you well.

What would help you settle in quickly

  • ACA or ACCA qualification

  • Audit experience gained within practice

  • Confidence leading audit planning meetings and fieldwork

  • Experience reviewing junior work

  • Good understanding of audit completion sections and review processes

  • Ability to manage budgets, deadlines and workflow

  • Clear communication with clients and internal teams

  • Confidence escalating technical issues appropriately

  • Interest in progressing beyond Audit Senior level

The benefits bit

You’ll get hybrid working, 25.5 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, holiday buying, contributory pension, life assurance, health cash plan, income protection, private medical insurance, critical illness insurance, Employee Assistance Programme, counselling support, annual flu jab, discounts and rewards.

There are also family-friendly policies, monthly recognition awards, internal and external training, clear progression routes, paid volunteering time, charitable giving options, cycle to work and interest-free travel or vehicle loan options where applicable.
