Audit Semi-Senior / Senior

Location: North London

Working pattern: Office-based, with 1 day remote from Audit Supervisor level upwards

Employment type: Permanent, full time

Big-firm clients. Boutique-firm personality. Definitely not a pin-drop office.

You probably don’t want another audit role that promises “variety” and then gives you the same small-company files on repeat.

This is different.

You’ll be joining a fiercely independent 10–15 Partner accountancy practice in North London that gives you the kind of client exposure people normally associate with much larger firms, but without the layers, politics and corporate fog that often come with them.

Think AIM and AQSE listed companies. Privately owned international groups. Fast-growth entrepreneurial businesses. Sports, music, media and entertainment clients. The firm’s public profile describes it as a full-service boutique commercial accounting firm with particular strength across sport, music and entertainment.

And this is not one of those firms where everyone sits in silence, eats lunch at their desk and communicates through calendar invites.

It’s lively. It’s office-based. People talk. Football gets debated. Current affairs come up. Someone will probably bring in doughnuts. You’ll be expected to work hard, but you’ll also be part of a team that actually feels like one.

Why people move here

Because you get the stretch without becoming a number.

The client base punches well above the firm’s size. You’ll work with privately owned multinational businesses, listed companies and high-growth entrepreneurial clients that would not look out of place in a Top 10 or Top 20 portfolio.

The leadership is strong too. Many of the Partners have backgrounds in Big Four, Top 10 and other well-known national firms, and the firm has real depth across audit, accounts, tax, corporate finance and specialist advisory work.

So if your worry is, “Will the clients be good enough outside Central London or a larger firm?” — yes, they will be.

In fact, the firm regularly attracts people from larger practices who are surprised by the calibre of work, the access to Partners and how quickly good people can progress.

The office-first bit, explained properly

This is not a hybrid-heavy role.

The firm believes people develop faster when they are around the team, learning in real time, listening to Partner conversations, picking up judgement, asking questions and seeing how good client service is delivered day to day.

Audit Supervisor level and above can access 1 day remote working, but the culture is built around being in the office.

That will not suit everyone.

But if you are the sort of person who wants to learn quickly, be visible, build relationships and feel part of a team rather than logging in from the spare room most of the week, this environment will probably suit you very well.

And location-wise is not exactly lacking. Food, coffee, gyms, pubs, shops, quick lunches.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be working in a role that is at least 60% audit-focused, leading audits from planning through to completion.

You’ll get involved in proper audit work, not just isolated file sections. You’ll plan assignments, lead fieldwork, manage deadlines, identify key issues, supervise juniors and help make sure work is delivered properly.

You’ll also get exposure to the wider practice environment, including accounts and client advisory work where relevant.

The role will include:

  • Leading audits from planning to completion

  • Working on audit assignments across a strong and varied client base

  • Managing fieldwork and keeping jobs moving

  • Identifying issues, researching them properly and proposing sensible solutions

  • Reviewing work prepared by junior team members

  • Supporting, coaching and developing juniors

  • Liaising with clients throughout the audit process

  • Preparing or reviewing statutory accounts where required

  • Working closely with Seniors, Managers and Partners

  • Keeping assignments on track, on budget and delivered to a high standard

Who this will suit

This will suit someone with at least three years’ practice experience in a role that is 60% or more audit-focused.

You’ll need at least 12 months’ experience leading audits from planning to completion, and you’ll ideally be ACA or ACCA qualified. Finalists will also be considered.

The right person will be curious and proactive. You do not need to know everything, but you do need to be the kind of person who has a go first — someone who researches, thinks, forms a view and then asks for input rather than simply passing the problem upwards.

You’ll also need to enjoy being around people. This is a lively, office-based team, and the culture rewards people who get involved, communicate well and bring energy to the role.

You’ll be a strong fit if you have:

  • 3+ years’ practice experience

  • A role that has been at least 60% audit-focused

  • At least 12 months’ experience leading audits from planning to completion

  • ACA or ACCA qualification, or finalist status

  • Confidence supervising junior team members

  • Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving

  • Good technical grounding across audit and accounts

  • Commercial awareness around budgets, deadlines and client service

  • Ambition to progress quickly

  • A genuine preference for an office-based, team-led environment

What makes the culture different?

This is a high-performance firm, but not a cold one.

Partners are visible, approachable and hands-on. Decisions are made quickly. Good ideas do not need to travel through five layers of approval. People are known by name, and effort gets noticed.

The progression stories are real too. The current Head of Accounts joined as a graduate at 21, became a salaried Partner at 29 and an equity Partner by 31.

That does not happen in firms where people are left to drift.

If you give 100%, the firm has a track record of giving serious progression, responsibility and opportunity back.
