Audit Manager – Nonprofit

Salary: £66,500 – £72,500

Location: City of London

Working pattern: Hybrid

Employment type: Permanent, full time

Nonprofit clients. Real portfolio ownership. Proper Partner exposure.

You’re an experienced Audit Manager with strong nonprofit sector experience, and you’re looking for a role where you can take real ownership of your client relationships, lead meaningful work and continue building your profile in a specialist team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded audit, tax and advisory firm within a dedicated nonprofit team, working with a broad client base that includes charities, educational bodies, trade associations and membership organisations.

You’ll manage a portfolio of nonprofit clients, typically in the £500k–£700k fee range, acting as the key day-to-day contact and leading audit and accounts assignments from planning through to completion. You’ll work closely with Partners, have direct client contact and be trusted to manage the delivery, quality and commercial performance of your engagements.

This is not a role where you’ll simply push files through review. You’ll be involved in the client conversations, the technical decisions and the wider development of the team.

For someone who enjoys the nonprofit sector and wants a role with genuine responsibility, visibility and progression, this is a strong next step.

What the role looks like

You’ll take ownership of a varied nonprofit client portfolio, building strong relationships and providing clear, practical advice to clients.

You’ll lead audit and accounts assignments, managing planning, budgeting, resourcing, timelines and delivery. You’ll delegate work across the team, monitor progress, review files and make sure assignments are completed to a high standard before Partner review.

You’ll also be a key point of contact for clients, HMRC and other professional advisors, helping ensure work is delivered smoothly and that clients receive joined-up support.

Alongside client delivery, you’ll play an active role in developing junior team members. You’ll provide coaching, feedback and technical support, helping create a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

There’s also scope to get involved in business development, including supporting tenders, attending client meetings and sector events, and identifying opportunities to grow client relationships.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing a portfolio of nonprofit audit clients

  • Acting as the primary day-to-day contact for clients

  • Building strong client relationships and providing clear, practical advice

  • Leading audit and accounts assignments from planning through to completion

  • Managing budgets, timelines, resourcing and delivery against deadlines

  • Delegating work and overseeing team performance

  • Reviewing files for quality, accuracy and compliance

  • Preparing assignments for Partner review

  • Delivering clear debriefs and constructive feedback to the team

  • Working closely with Tax specialists where required

  • Liaising with clients, HMRC and other professional advisors

  • Coaching and developing junior team members

  • Supporting tenders, proposals and wider business development activity

  • Contributing to billing, WIP management and engagement performance

  • Identifying ways to improve processes, efficiencies and client service

Who we’re looking for

This role will suit someone who is ACA, ACCA or equivalently qualified, with proven experience managing nonprofit audit clients in practice.

You’ll need strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards, together with the confidence to manage client relationships and explain technical matters clearly.

You’ll be comfortable taking ownership of assignments, managing deadlines and supporting the people around you. The right person will be organised, proactive and commercially aware, with the ability to lead teams and build trusted relationships with clients.

You don’t need to be the finished article, but you should be ready for a role where you can step forward, take more responsibility and continue developing as a specialist nonprofit audit professional.

Particularly strong fits will have:

  • ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification

  • Strong nonprofit audit experience

  • Experience managing a portfolio of audit clients

  • Good working knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards

  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders, including trustees and governors

  • Experience leading audit teams and developing junior colleagues

  • Strong organisation, communication and client management skills

  • Commercial awareness and an interest in business development

Why this role?

This is a strong opportunity for an Audit Manager who wants more than a standard portfolio management role.

You’ll be joining a collaborative firm with a specialist nonprofit team, direct Partner access and a strong focus on quality client service. The role offers technical variety, senior stakeholder exposure, team leadership and the chance to build your profile in a sector where the work genuinely matters.

The firm also places real emphasis on supporting its people. You’ll benefit from flexible working, tailored development, mentoring, inclusive policies and a broad benefits package, including family-friendly support, volunteering leave, flexible benefits, the option to buy and sell annual leave, flexible bank holidays, wellbeing initiatives, employee communities and regular social events.

For an Audit Manager with strong nonprofit experience who wants ownership, progression and a supportive environment to keep developing, this is a very good move.
