This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and senior Nurse or Midwifery Leader to be responsible for the strategic and operational Workforce Modernisation of the Nursing and Midwifery workforce ensuring effective strategic support to NHS Wales in delivering the vision set out in Government policies through the implementation of the objectives agreed through Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) Integrated Medium term Plan (IMTP).

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Nursing, Health Professionals and Quality, the post holder will be the lead for the design and implementation of major workforce programmes across Wales formulating long term strategic plans and will be the expert in their field.

The Associate Director Workforce Transformation (Nursing and Midwifery) will deputise for the Executive Director of Nursing, Health Professions and Quality as required, will support the Executive Director of Nursing, Health Professionals and Quality in Financial Management, Management Procedures, Governance, Risk Management and be part of the directorate senior management team.

Interviews for this post are scheduled for 3rd November, in person at Ty Dysgu, Nantgarw CF15 7QQ.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Ensure effective arrangements are in place for the delivery of workforce modernisation programmes across primary, community and secondary care in support of A Healthier Wales, NHS Wales National Programmes, Welsh Government priorities, Duty of Quality, NHS Wales in 10\+ years.
Manage a complex set of stakeholder relationships required to deliver changes across education, service, government and private/industry sectors, this will include working with clinicians, director\-level managers and private organisations.

To be a visible leader facilitating and engaging staff and clinicians to contribute to the overall strategic direction of workforce and education improvement/ transformation.

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) is the strategic workforce body for NHS Wales with statutory functions that include education and training, workforce planning, workforce development and transformation, leadership and succession planning, and careers. Our purpose is to develop a workforce that delivers excellent care to patients/service users and excellent population health. We are a Special Health Authority working closely with our partners; Social Care Wales, education providers, professional and regulatory bodies and Welsh Government.
