About Therma\-Mech
Therma\-Mech is a growing specialist infrastructure contractor delivering complex energy and utility projects across the UK.
Our work includes district heating networks, energy centres, major mechanical and M\&E installations, civils infrastructure and customer connections. We work with major energy companies, local authorities and healthcare organisations, often delivering projects in complex live environments.
As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team.
The Role
This is an opportunity for an early\-career commercial professional to develop their career within a growing contractor and gain broad exposure across the commercial management of construction and infrastructure projects.
Working alongside our Project Managers and Finance team you will support the commercial delivery of projects from procurement through to final account.
The role would suit someone who already has some experience within construction and is either working towards, or looking to develop towards, a Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification.
We are looking for someone who wants to understand how projects are actually delivered, with regular interaction with our project and site teams rather than a purely office\-based commercial role.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will develop with your experience but are expected to include:
- Assisting with the commercial management of live construction projects
- Preparing and supporting client applications for payment
- Reviewing and assessing subcontractor applications
- Supporting subcontractor procurement, tender comparisons and order placement
- Assisting with project cost reporting, forecasting and cost/value reconciliation
- Identifying, recording and valuing variations and changes
- Supporting the preparation and management of compensation events
- Maintaining accurate commercial and contractual records
- Assisting with measurement and valuation of completed works
- Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts
- Reviewing project costs, commitments and commercial performance
- Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and the wider delivery team
- Attending project and commercial meetings where required
- Undertaking regular site visits to understand progress and the works being delivered
- Developing an understanding of standard forms of construction contract
We are looking for someone at an early stage of their commercial career who wants to develop within a contractor environment.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience within the construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or M\&E sectors
- Some experience in a commercial, Quantity Surveying or construction\-related role
- A relevant degree or qualification, or be working towards one
- A good commercial and numerical understanding
- Strong Excel and general IT skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The confidence to work with both site\-based and office\-based teams
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- A willingness to learn and take on increasing levels of responsibility
- A full UK driving licence
- Quantity Surveying
- Quantity Surveying \& Commercial Management
- Commercial Management
- Construction Management
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Engineering
- Building Services Engineering
- Building Surveying
- Other relevant construction or built\-environment disciplines
This is a role with genuine scope to develop as the business continues to grow.
You will gain exposure to a broad range of commercial activities and work directly with experienced commercial and operational staff across significant infrastructure and energy projects.
We offer:
- Salary of £35,000–£40,000 depending on experience
- Company benefits package
- Support towards relevant professional qualifications and continued professional development
- Exposure to NEC and other major construction contracts
- Experience across civils, mechanical, M\&E and energy infrastructure
- Regular site exposure and involvement throughout the project lifecycle
- Opportunities to take on greater commercial responsibility as your experience develops
- Long\-term career progression within a growing business
