Job Summary

We are looking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist (0\.6wte) to support our Neuropsychology team based on the inpatient stroke rehabilitation ward at Chapel Allerton Hospital (ward C06\). The post is funded until the end of March 2027 as part of ongoing work to develop rehabilitation services for stroke patients in Leeds. The successful applicant will work alongside a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Principal Clinical Psychologist to support the neuropsychological needs of patients (emotional, cognitive and behavioural changes). The Neuropsychology team work closely with the multidisciplinary stroke rehabilitation team, consisting of rehabilitation Consultants, medics, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapist, Dieticians, Nurses and Health Care Support Workers. There will therefore be opportunities for joint working with other colleagues to support individuals’ rehabilitation.
The role will involve a range of clinical tasks such as administering and scoring cognitive tests, behavioural observations and delivering low\-intensity psychological interventions and rehabilitation interventions. The role may also involve supporting psychologists and other members of the stroke rehabilitation MDT team to run groups for stroke patients. Other duties are likely to include developing resources; maintenance of databases; data collection and analysis; supporting service development and audit projects and assistance with writing research papers / poster presentations. Experience of working with in a multidisciplinary team, working with individuals with cognitive and communication difficulties and with administering and scoring neuropsychological assessments would be desirable.

As well as being a member of the stroke rehabilitation MDT, you would also be part of a large Neuropsychology Department and the Clinical and Health Psychology Department in LTHT. There are regular opportunities to attend group neuropsychology supervision sessions and a range of special interest groups (e.g. Neuropsychology, CBT, CAT, CFT, Equality and Diversity). As a Psychology department we are keen to support those early in their career as a Psychologist and often have Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Clinical Psychologists.
What you will bring to the role

- An upper second class honours degree or higher in Psychology
- Entitlement to Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society
- Experience of working directly with service users in a health care or other relevant setting
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations with sensitivity
