Department of Computer Science, Aalborg University is hiring Assistant professors or Assistant professors Tenure Track starting February 1, 2027. The Assistant professor position is a 3\-year fixed term full\-time position, and the tenure track position, is a structured career pathway with clearly defined criteria for progression to a permanent position upon successful evaluation.

About the CPH Section

The CPH Section is organised around the Software education programme at AAU’s Copenhagen campus and spans a broad range of computer science research. The two positions in this call will strengthen the section’s profiles in Probabilistic and Symbolic AI (PSAI), covering probabilistic, symbolic and neuro\-symbolic approaches to AI, and Data Engineering, Science, and Systems (DESS), focusing on methods and systems for managing and analysing complex data. The section also hosts research in areas including natural language processing and trustworthy AI, human\-centred computing, software engineering, and distributed and interactive systems. This breadth supports collaboration across research groups and between foundational, methodological and application\-oriented research.

Qualification requirements

Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Your work tasks

As tenure track assistant professor your primary tasks will be research and research\-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at bachelor’s and master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.

Your main tasks will consist of:

• Independent research of the highest international quality including publication.


• Teaching, guidance and examination of bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as well as possible supervision of PhD students.


• Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.


• The opportunity to collaborate with relevant national and international research environments.

Your competencies

We are looking for applicants with independent research\-related qualifications at a high international level and a PhD degree incomputer science or a related field, and you show potential to become one of the best in the academic field of the position. You are a clear communicator with potential of becoming a skilled group leader, and you can, under guidance, organize and conduct supervision and teaching at bachelor’s and master’s degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with external research collaborations. We also draw attention to a stay or employment at one or more internationally recognised research institutions.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team\-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be able to write and speak English at the academic level.

Tenure track positions are usually aimed at candidates who have not previously held an assistant professor position. In order to be assessed qualified for a tenure track assistant professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

Assessment in connection with transfer to associate professorship

The assessment in connection with transition to tenure as an associate professor normally takes place in the final six months of the tenure track assistant professors’ employment. However, the employee may request that an assessment take place at an earlier time in the first four years. If this assessment finds that the employee is not academically qualified, they may request another assessment within the final six months of their period of employment. A maximum of two assessments may take place.

In order to be qualified for an associate professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

Appointed candidates will have to make a tenure track career plan with the head of department/immediate superior to align expectations and indicate the objectives for the tenure track’s development process. This career plan must be satisfactory followed and accomplished for the tenure track assistant professor to be assessed qualified.

Additionally, the assessment, on transition to the associate professorship, will as a minimum, emphasize the following qualifications in relation to the scientific subject area of the tenure track assistant professorship:

Research qualifications equivalent to the level that can be achieved on the basis of satisfactorily completed employment as tenure track assistant professor.

Documented scientific production at international level. Assessment will be based on up to ten selected publications selected by the employee.

Documentation of pedagogical supervision and upgrading of qualifications, including a positive written assessment of teaching qualifications. The assessment will also be based on the employee's teaching portfolio. The level of contribution to an active academic environment as well as the ability to collaborate and build relationships.

The level of experience with grant proposals and experience of communicating research to relevant stakeholders.

Appointed candidates will have to make a tenure track career plan with the head of department/immediate superior, to align expectations and indicate the objectives for the tenure track’s development process. This career plan must be satisfactory followed and accomplished in order for the tenure track assistant professor to be assessed qualified.

If the tenure track assistant professor fails to request that their qualifications be assessed in the last year of their period of employment or if they are assessed as not academically qualified, the university must immediately initiate dismissal proceedings in accordance with the collective agreement rules.
