Assistant professor in pedagogy and didactics
VIA is seeking a temporary Assistant Professor with strong expertise in mathematics didactics for a two\-year project position starting on 1 November 2026\.
Do you want to generate new scientific insights into adaptive teaching in demographically diverse preschool classrooms—and how Early Childhood Professionals’ (ECPs’) micro\-adaptive teaching during Shared Book Reading (SBR) in the mathematics domain supports 4–5\-year\-olds’ instructional language acquisition, specifically mathematical language? As a postdoc, you will take a key role in the international Denmark–Flanders study, working with video\-based observations, IRF\-informed interaction coding, stimulated recall interviews, and advanced analyses, and translating findings into international publications and practice\-focused dissemination.
The position is based in the Research Centre for Didactics and Pedagogy within the Mathematics Didactics Programme and is affiliated with the project “Adaptive Teaching in Demographically Diverse Preschool Classrooms”, which focuses on:
- Generating new scientific insights into adaptive teaching in demographically diverse preschool classrooms.
- Investigating early childhood practitioners’ (ECPs’) micro\-adaptive teaching during Shared Book Reading (SBR) in the mathematics domain.
- Examining how IRF\-informed ECP–child interactions (initiations–responses–follow\-ups) relate to 4–5\-year\-olds’ instructional language acquisition, specifically mathematical language.
- Contributing to an international Denmark–Flanders study using video\-based observations, interaction coding, and stimulated recall interviews (macro\-adaptive teaching reflections).
- Translating findings into international publications and practice\-oriented dissemination (e.g., workshops for ECPs).
- Coordinate and deliver day\-to\-day project activities across the international Denmark–Flanders collaboration.
- Collaborate with colleagues, students, and external stakeholders/partners
- Plan and manage core research operations, including timelines, protocols, and coordination with participating preschool settings.
- Lead data collection workflows and ensure high\-quality research data (e.g., organising recordings/fieldwork and related documentation).
- Oversee data preparation and coding processes, including coordination of transcription/coding tasks and quality assurance.
- Conduct analyses and synthesize findings into clear, publishable results.
- Drive scientific dissemination, including drafting journal manuscripts and preparing conference contributions.
- Support practice\-oriented impact activities, such as contributing to workshops and knowledge exchange with Early Childhood Professionals
- Hold a relevant PhD degree in didactics, pedagogy, or psychology
- Are able to work independently and in a structured manner in a project\-based work setting
- Have strong digital skills and can organise your own working time and tasks
- Are proficient in Flemish and English, both written and spoken

Terms of employment
This is a fixed\-term temporary Assistant Professor position for two years, with an average working time of 37 hours per week.
Depending on your educational background, employment will be in accordance with either the current Overenskomst for akademikere i staten or Fællesoverenskomsten for LC/CO10 og organisationsaftalen for undervisere på erhvervsakademier og professionshøjskoler (LC/CO10’s forhandlingsområde).
