The Edinburgh Thistle Hotel is a privately owned, character\-filled property located in the heart of Edinburgh’s prestigious West End. Our hotel combines historic charm with a personal touch, offering guests a welcoming and comfortable experience in a boutique setting. With a loyal customer base and a reputation for attentive service, we are now seeking a passionate and dependable Assistant Hotel Manager to help support the day\-to\-day running of our operations.
Role Overview:
The Assistant Hotel Manager will play a key role in ensuring smooth hotel operations while delivering excellent guest experiences. You will support the General Manager in overseeing the front office, housekeeping, and general guest services, while also contributing to staff development, operational improvements, and problem\-solving on the ground.
This is a hands\-on role suited to someone with previous hospitality experience who enjoys being actively involved in the day\-to\-day running of a small, friendly hotel.
Key Responsibilities:
· Assist the General Manager with the overall running of the hotel
· Oversee daily operations including reception, housekeeping, and maintenance teams
· Monitor guest check\-ins/check\-outs and manage reservations when required
· Respond promptly to guest feedback, complaints, and special requests to ensure satisfaction
· Help lead, train, and support team members in providing high levels of customer service
· Support with recruitment, scheduling, and team development
· Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and guest care across all departments
· Assist in maintaining accurate financial and administrative records, including petty cash, invoices, and stock ordering
· Ensure all health, safety, licensing, and fire procedures are upheld and reviewed regularly
· Provide on\-call support when the General Manager is off\-site
Candidate Requirements:
· Minimum 2 years’ experience in a assistant manager or hotel management role within hospitality (hotel or guesthouse experience preferred)
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Friendly, professional and calm under pressure
· Organised and proactive, with good time\-management and multi\-tasking ability
· A strong eye for detail, especially in housekeeping and front\-of\-house standards
· Confidence in using booking systems, email, and MS Office (training on hotel\-specific systems will be provided)
· Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and occasional evenings
· Eligibility to work in the UK

Working Hours:
Full\-time, 42 hours per week. Shifts will vary across weekdays and weekends.
