Due to the current Assistant Head of School being due to commence maternity leave in September 2026 we are seeking to appoint a temporary Assistant Head of School. This will ensure the school has the leadership capacity it needs during this maternity period.

The successful applicant will be taking on the majority of responsibilities from the substantive Assistant Head of School, however there would be some flexibility to distribute roles across senior leaders.

The post is temporary to cover the maternity leave of the permanent post holder and will continue until 31st December 2026 or the resumption/resignation of the permanent post holder, whichever is sooner.

This role encompasses comprehensive oversight of key operational, curriculum, and staffing functions to ensure high-quality provision and positive outcomes for all learners. The post holder will oversee progression, assessment, accreditation pathways, and the development and staffing of the 14–19 curriculum, ensuring robust use of progress data to inform practice. Responsibilities include monitoring attendance, tracking leavers’ destinations, and leading the effective delivery of enrichment activities such as breakfast club and lunchtime dining. In addition, the role involves leadership of students and volunteers, alongside coordinating coaching and mentoring programmes and managing support teams, including kitchen and midday supervisors. The position also includes responsibility for staff deployment and cover, performance development reviews (PDR), and the organisation of safe and effective dining arrangements, contributing to a well-structured and supportive learning environment.

This position would be suitable for members of staff who can already demonstrate appropriate experience of leadership within their role. There will be a range of training, mentoring and coaching support for successful candidates from the current leadership team, executive team and external providers.

Under the Teacher and Higher Education Act 1998 and the Teachers (Compulsory Registration) Wales Regulations 2000, every qualified teacher, who is employed in a maintained school must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
