The Assistant General Manager (AGM) will support the operational delivery of Trauma and Orthopaedic (T\&O) services across Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Working closely with the General Manager and Deputy General Manager, the post holder will play a key role in ensuring the effective day\-to\-day management of services, delivery of performance targets, and continuous improvement of patient pathways.

The role requires a highly organised and motivated individual with strong leadership capability, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The post holder will contribute to achieving Trust objectives, including waiting time standards, high\-quality patient care, and financial recovery targets.

1\. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the General Manager and Deputy General Manager in the operational delivery of Trauma \& Orthopaedic services across both hospital sites.

  • Ensure delivery of national and local performance targets, including Referral to Treatment (RTT) waiting times from GP referral to discharge

  • Oversee the effective utilisation of theatre capacity and outpatient clinics, including proactive management of waiting lists and patient pathways.

  • Provide leadership and oversight to Admissions Teams across both sites, ensuring consistent and high\-quality service delivery.

  • Monitor service performance, analyse data, and implement corrective actions to address variances and improve outcomes

  • Support the delivery of service improvement initiatives and operational projects within the division.

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between clinical, administrative, and managerial teams

  • Escalate risks, capacity issues, and performance concerns appropriately, providing solutions and recommendations

  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures, and governance requirements

  • Act as a key operational contact for the service, supporting decision\-making and problem resolution in a dynamic environment

2\. Management and Leadership
  • Provide operational leadership for designated areas within the Trauma \& Orthopaedic service

  • Support the General Manager and Deputy General Manager in the delivery of strategic and operational objectives

  • Oversee the Admissions Teams across both hospital sites, ensuring effective workforce utilisation and service delivery

  • Promote a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement

  • Act as a key point of contact for service issues, supporting problem\-solving and decision\-making

  • Work collaboratively with consultants, clinical teams, and managers to ensure safe and effective patient care
3\. Planning and Organisation
  • Ensure efficient and effective management of T\&O theatres and outpatient clinics across all sites, including community settings

  • Monitor and manage capacity, patient flows, and waiting times to meet RTT and other national targets

  • Support the planning and delivery of service improvements and operational projects within the service

  • Contribute to achieving Trust financial objectives, including the Financial Recovery Program

  • Ensure optimal utilisation of theatre lists and outpatient appointments

  • Coordinate cross\-site services to ensure consistency and efficiency in service delivery
4\. Communications and Working Relationships
  • Develop strong working relationships with consultants, clinical teams, operational managers, and administrative staff

  • Provide clear, timely, and effective communication across multidisciplinary teams

  • Engage with stakeholders to support service development and performance improvement

  • Act as a liaison between clinical and non\-clinical teams to ensure alignment of priorities

  • Support a positive team environment, working both independently and collaboratively

  • Communicate complex operational information clearly to a range of audi
