We’re looking for a passionate and driven Assistant General Manager (AGM) to join our ambitious management team. Working closely with our founders and senior leadership, you’ll help lead the business day\-to\-day, inspire the team, drive standards and support the continued growth of one of East London’s most exciting independent hospitality venues.

At The Leytonstone Tavern, hospitality comes first. Alongside our busy restaurant and bar, we host weddings, celebrations, tequila tastings, beer festivals, BBQs and bespoke events, while our award\-winning food trucks appear at festivals and events throughout the summer.

As Assistant General Manager, you’ll be a key leader within the business, supporting the founders and senior management team to ensure smooth operations, exceptional guest experiences and continued commercial success.
You’ll lead from the front — inspiring the team, driving service standards and helping oversee all areas of the business including the restaurant, bar, events and external catering operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the overall running and performance of the venue
- Leading and motivating management and floor teams to deliver exceptional service
- Driving a culture of hospitality excellence and guest satisfaction
- Managing busy services while maintaining high operational standards
- Supporting recruitment, training and team development
- Assisting with stock control, ordering, GP targets and cost management
- Monitoring labour, productivity and operational performance
- Supporting event planning and delivery, including weddings, festivals and bespoke functions
- Maintaining compliance across health \& safety and licensing regulations
- Working closely with founders to identify opportunities for growth and improve performance
- Acting as a key point of leadership in the General Manager’s absence
We’re looking for someone with strong operational experience and a genuine passion for hospitality, who enjoys developing teams and creating memorable guest experiences.
You’ll ideally have:
✔ Previous experience in an Assistant General Manager, Senior Duty Manager or equivalent leadership role within hospitality
✔ Minimum 2\+ years management experience in a busy pub, bar or restaurant environment
✔ Strong leadership skills with experience managing high\-performing teams
✔ Excellent understanding of P\&L awareness, labour management and stock control
✔ Experience driving service standards and guest satisfaction
✔ Knowledge and enthusiasm for craft beer, wine, cocktails and food culture
✔ Experience with training and developing teams
✔ A positive, solutions\-focused attitude with strong communication skills
✔ Confidence managing busy services and operational challenges
